I think Craig Angelos needs a huge Thank You from Owl Nation.

Knowing Jarvis, this is no form of nepotism. He probably feels that his son is the best candidate to take over when he leaves.

Also, I'm sorry, but this is the same coach who built this basketball program? Yeah, thought so. Where would we be without him?

YOU'RE NOT GETTING THE POINT.  You don't make it a contingency to your contract.  I don't care if it's John Calipari, Roy Williams, or Coach K as our HC. Let's negotiate base salary, incentives, benefits, perks.  Not dictate who your own coach in waiting is going to be.

I want him to stay, and as I have said before, he's built this program to a level that it's never been to before, done an incredible job. But the naming of his successor is not for him to do.

Will I mind if the program caves on this request?  No, I won't.  I want to see him sign that contract and see this team win the Sunbelt and go to the tournament.    I just don't agree with the tactic.

I agree that in a normal negotiation, the coach in waiting should not be a part of this.

As we all know, nothing is ever normal at FAU.

If the negotiation from Jarvis is that: if you cannot afford to give me the $500K everyone else would pay me, then give me $300K (I am making up the numbers) and appoint my son coach in waiting and I will take the deal…then I can live with that.

If I were the AD, I would not want to have a coach in waiting dictated to me, however, if I didn't have the budget to keep a top quality coach, I would certainly entertain the idea as a creative way to make it happen.

As a fan, we need to keep Coach Jarvis or we will take 20 steps back.

Great point, and this scenario may be where they cave on the coach-in-waiting demand.

Re: I think Craig Angelos needs a huge Thank You from Owl Nation.

I will reserve my judgement on a congrats till the next football season plays out and see what happens with Coach Jarvis.

We hired Pelini on the cheap as is proven by the subsequent hires and contract changes made in the Belt.

Ark. St. just hired Mahlzon (OC at AUBURN) for $850K! So the newest Belt hire is at 2X what we are paying Pelini. The entire Belt pay structure is changing DAILY it seems and I don't care what we signed the man for, that is ancient history already. Either we make the man happy (he was and may not be today seeing the headlines) and at least keep up with the Belt or we die!

And it is taking WAY TOO LONG to get a Coaching staff in place and our recruits are VERY nervous people right now and we can't blame them. We only have five verbals and we have not even contacted all of them yet??? Right now it seems we have a one mane staf with one helper not under contract and one DC still not signed and it is 10 days now, 10 very important days in the transition period. I am an optimist but who else is geting a very worried feeling?

Shocked Malzahn took that job.  Though it does raise the stature of this conference.

Re: I think Craig Angelos needs a huge Thank You from Owl Nation.

AND THE PAY SCALE! Our newly hired Coach is already in the lower half of BELT pay and we expect him to hire good assts.? The guys we are looking at ARE NOT great choices with great O's;

Kansas - last in Big10 in points score (22.3) and yeards gained (326) and next to last in 3rd down pct.!

Montana St. - fourth in a nine team CONFERENCE in FCS in both points scored and yards!

NOT inspiring numbers guys! We had better raise our standards and sights (AND PAY IMHO) if we want out of the Belt cellar. Our BELT competition whom are already much better than us are!

I'm not praising Angelos until I see what happens, because a lot can!
I am excited about the Pelini hire, but we need to see what he can do first.
Secondly, if he does good, what can Angelos do to keep him here?
Also keeping Jarvis here, do those things and I will praise Angelos!

With his son having a contract to be named coach in waiting, maybe he feels that he doesn't have to over stay his welcome. A lot of people feel Howard stayed to long, that may be something Jarvis wants to avoid.

If Jarvis gets us that brand new 10,000 seat arena built he is welcome to over stay his welcome.  Building that would be a game changer for the University and basketball program for the next 50 years.  I would happily see him "over stay" his welcome for an extra season or two in exchange for a new arena.

Guy relax. When Pelini was hired we all were praising it! Now arkansas state hires an OC whose only good year was when Cam Newton was his QB and we freak out? On the staff note we just had a steal in hiring coach sanders that made a big 10 school extremly jealous. And for the rest of the staff they will come in. Pelinis first order of buisness was to get coordinators than based on who he brings in as an OC and DC will dictate who he brings in for the rest of the staff. Theres no gurantee that the new arkansas HC will succeed. Give Pelini a chance
