Without a doubt conference play will be much different then in the SBC. But will it be for better or for worse?
Do you think we would have to work again from the ground up? How would this affect recruiting?

To answer your questions a little bit…

If FAU was 4-0 right now, we could talk more about trajectory and a future change in conference. Right now, we're not clicking so nobody is going to pay attention. Plus, we don't have the stadium or fanbase to be attractive to a BCS conference yet.

Even if we did, SEC is never going to want us; that conference is more for flagships that have been playing football for a million years to packed audiences in 90k seat stadiums. Think about it… Florida, Georgia, Arkansas… we don't "fit" there.

ACC is a similar longshot, especially since they already have FSU and Miami. With Miami, there's no incentive to "capture the market" like we might do with the Big East (which isn't expanding any time soon either).

If for some reason we had the stadium and were in a BCS conference, it would be better for us. Better exposure, better bowl berths, better recruits.

Agreed. If we were in a BCS conference we would see our recruit quality go up and we would play better etc, but its not happening.  Big East wouldnt take East Carolina and they were willing to sell their soul.

Yeah, I heard about that… what happened exactly?

They asked to be let in as Football-Only and would forfeit any profit sharing from the Big East bowl revenue while at the same time sharing any bowl revenue that they received.

I've always said that USF started up at just the right time.  Took advantage of two conference shifts and sort of fell into a BCS conference.  Helps that they already had the stadium, and a big one at that.  But the conferences are pretty well set for now.  It could be years before there's another shift.  The Sun Belt will probably expand to 12 teams before the Big East does.
