Intresting Chun Interivew

Post

ERROR: A link was posted here (flash) but it appears to be a broken link.

Chun did an interview yesterday and a I found something said very interesting.

Idk what mark it was , but we talking about how he talked to people he trusts concerning the next hire because "he needs to hang onto his job and feed his family'' or something along those lines.

It was very real moment in the fact it appears he knows he has to hit on this hire ore he could be next.
Its rare to when coaches or AD' have those moments.

The overall interview is good as well.

He certainly does need to hit a homerun with this hire, open up the checkbook and get it right.

Thanks for posting, oc40.

Some other good quotes:

"When you do the analysis, there just isn't a high success rate for first-time coaches who have not gotten to at least 6 wins in the first 3 years and their ability to get to 6 or beyond that in year four."

"He's done wonderful work here, he's a wonderful human being."

"We have a foundation here, we never had that in the past. Whoever comes in here doesn't have to deal with one-quarter of the roster on academic probation, he doesn't have to deal with a broken down nutrition program, strength+conditioning program. When Charlie got here our game helmets were our practice helmets, we might have been the only school in the country like that… all those little things make a difference, we modernized our program."

"You have a person who did everything we asked and beyond."

"This is not a rebuild by any stretch of the imagination."

What could Charlie have done to keep his job? "Year 3 is a critical year. It just came down to, we needed to see more wins, that was it. Was there a magic number? I don't know."

If he won 4 games this year instead of 3, would he have stayed? "There was an expectation across the board… knowing the strength of schedule, we thought 6 was a very attainable goal."

Regarding increasing salaries: "We have limitations financially but we also believe there is a high return on investment."

FIU hiring Butch Davis impacting this decision. "Perception. No impact at all."

The quote about his job and putting food on the table was about Chun reaching out to Gene Smith, Urban Meyer and Jim Tressel for their advice and they being more worried about him being employed and putting food on the table than a personal agenda (to get more Ohio State into FAU).

The next coach has to be someone the Joe Blow fan has heard of. "Somewhere in the middle of that. Your body of work speaks for itself."

What's left for FAU to do? New stadium, feels like you're embedded in the high school community and business community, the only thing you don't do is… win? "Correct." "It's to continue our belief that we can build a sustainable model… we believe that because of the high school talent locally that once we get over the winning hump, we can sustain it because of the quality of the student athletes we can attract here…. we don't want to be a visitor in the bowl game win column, we want it to be a sustainable, every year you can count on FAU being one of the top Group of 5 programs in the country."

Next coach has to have South Florida ties, perception or reality? "Perception. There are more coaches down here. The reality is that this is a national recruiting region."
