Is the rumor true that FAU spent 200K marketing the FAU-MSU game in Det?

I'm sorry, but the MSU fan "FAU is making us play in Detroit, woe is us" attitude is growing old.  I'm so sorry that FAU gave you an extra home game that will be played in the heart of your biggest alumni base.  You get to go watch your team play in a beautiful facility…boo hoo!  So perhaps FAU priced it $10 too high…it's probably still cheaper for their fans in Detroit then making the trip to East Lansing.

All I see from Spartans fans is complaining about having to play poor little FAU.  Well you are the ones that scheduled us in the first place…and then agreed to move the game.  MSU could have said no, play the game in Dolphins Stadium….but I'm sure they were thrilled to get to play in Detroit and save the travel costs.  FAU got into a bind with the stadium delay and thought it was being nice moving the game to Detroit.  Sure we will benefit financially, but MSU gets to play in front of a friendly crowd in a city a short drive from campus, and yet if you read comments from their fans it's like FAU had to twist their arms to get them to play there.

I noticed a lot of that on their message board as well. As with any school, there are good and bad fans, and with MSU having such a large fan base, that equals out to a lot of bad fans.

It would be way more expensive to take a trip to FL to watch them play, than pay a little bit more per ticket to watch them in detroit… which there athletic department approved the ticket prices!

An upset would be sweet, but I hope we just keep it close with no injuries.

GO OWLS!!!

I don't think anybody is complaining about playing FAU.  We're just trying to shed some light on why ticket sales are not going as well as expected.  Having an "away" game in Detroit is great for us.  Obviously, the decision to play in Detroit is beneficial for both parties.  If FAU said we're playing in Dolphins Stadium, MSU probably would have agreed to it, but FAU probably would have lost a bunch of money doing that.  I understand your point, but at the same time I think you're going a little overboard.  MSU fans could always play the "it's not our fault you can't build your stadium in time" card, but its just not productive to the discussion.  Obviously, its in the interest of both schools for ticket sales to go well.

On that vein of thought, I did read a post on MSU's premium rivals board that there is only about 1.5 sections left with $19 tickets, so I would expect the whole upper section of the stadium to be sold out for the game.  While that might seem to be of a "is the glass half full or half empty" statement, it also points to the fact that anybody walking up and buying at the ticket office on gameday (which, from what I've read, could be a lot of people) will likely be buying more expensive tickets.

If you want some perspective, OSU returned 5,000 of its allotted 12,500 tickets when Cleveland Browns Stadium hosted Toledo's "home game" with the Buckeyes on Sept. 19, 2009. Many of those returned tickets were eventually sold via Ticketmaster, but OSU's regular ticket-buying fanbase can't claim the credit. Announced attendance was 71,727 – about 1,500 shy of a sellout.  That is one of the best football programs in the country, they travel as well as anybody and they were playing another team from Ohio.

Someone texted me but did not provide a link to a source but they are FAU alum; just wondering. That is alot of marketing $ for game not in your stadium.

Does anyone know how much $ FAU received in gate receipts?  I think it was a good idea if MSU would of showed up in force which if they had 30k+ they did.  Hopefully the $ will go a long ways toward your stadium.

I say put AT LEAST 10% of the proceds into the recruiting budget and let's get competitive with more 3 and even 4 star recruits now! Winning will fill the stadium, the past two years level of talent and coaching (just look at the results) will not fill it 1/2 way even part of the time.

Then lets put the other 90% towards coaches who know how to utilize talent…our coordinators must be watching a different team then we are if they keep coming up with the same basic gameplan week after week

Our offensive gameplan is incredibly simple. They'll try to say it's because of our young O-line but even with an experience O-line we ran plays so obvious you could see them coming from space.
