Jason Driskel on His Play

Post

"I don't know what people say and I don't care to be honest."

"I care what Coach Kiffin and Coach Briles have to say on Mondays when we come in and watch film."

"I care what my team mates have to say and what they think about me."

What is the team saying?

"That's between us, that's why you're on a team."

"Whether I'm playing third string, fourth string, running back, tight end, safety - we're winning football games. - that's what we came here to do and right now we're doing it."

The game has changed sooo much over the years - but for some reason i wanted to look into Eric Crouch and his stats because I remember him being very run heavy. Pretty wild that he won the Heisman and took his team to a National Championship (2001) with 1,500K yards passing, 7 TD and 10 interceptions. Granted he had over 1K on the ground and 18 rushing touchdowns. Just found that to be interesting.

Good post! The game really has NOT changed, if ya CAN run the ball, eat clock and score TD's (Navy, Ga. Tech, Baylor in prime years, UGA this year) you are gonna win A LOT of games! Look this past weekend at Tulsa getting DESTROYED by TULANE!!!!!!!

Running (Successful) = Clock Control…..but there is still a need to score fast through the air. I love this team, I love this staff - but I don't know how we would fair 4 points down, on the 25, with 1:28 left on the clock.

This may be the game to see what this team can do through the air. We have talented receivers. Just need to get the ball near them.

Driskell led us 95 yards vs. UTEP last year, he HAS done it!!!

I understand these responses from Driskel as long as he is actively trying to get better at the passing game because that's what the coaches want.

We need that dimension, and to slow down the run, and we'll be the top of the conference at the end of the season.

Selfishly I'd like to see the passing game open up because I'd really like for McNeal and Wright to be as dominant and fun to watch as Singletary and Howell. I know they have that in them because we've seen streaks of it already.

I agree, but Driskell just hasn't show that ability to really connect on the deep pass yet, nor on the 10-20 pass plays. He has missed badly on those throws, and even on some of the shorter routes too besides staying too long in the pocket waiting for something to open. look if nothing opens up after 5 seconds, he should take off and pick up what he can on the ground. but again i am just a fan, not a coach.

Driskell reminds me a lot of BJ Daniels, the USF QB from a couple years back.  Daniels was smaller but was very run heavy and had that same "If nothings open right now I"m gonna run" play that USMC owl just mentioned.  I watched a lot of their games and it was very exciting and I think gave USF a great season.  Hell, they spanked FSU in Tallahassee in his first game I think.  Point is they scored a lot of points but that style of play took its toll and eventually he started getting beat up which slowed him down and changed the game for the team.  Driskell is bigger so he may last longer but as much as I love seeing us score, I cringe every time he is on the run.  Lets sit back and enjoy this for as long as we can  :Big-Grin:

Going back to the MTSU game, I became a fan of Driskell's when I saw him throw a little swing pass out to the RB, then he absolutely sprinted his @$$ off to actually get in front of the guy and not only try to get in the way of the defender, but throw a hard-nosed block.  I had frustrations when I saw him look like he just couldn't pull the trigger with WRs running deep corner routes that you could just tell were going to be open for TDs - you could see Driskell read it and see it but for whatever reason just didn't trust heaving the ball down there.  He is completing something like 65% of his passes, and that play I saw clearly illustrates he is leading by example with his "I am trying to do whatever I can to make us win" mentality.  I agree that eventually you typically need to at least scare the defense with the possibility you will go downfield, but like "duder" said we should enjoy this as long as it continues.  And often I ask myself why a coach ever goes away from what it working.  This is a good running football team, so let's milk it until somebody proves they can stop it.
