Kiffin Released by Alabama - Owls Bound Immediately

Post

Kiffin is out as Offensive coordinator at Alabama for the NC game. He is now our full time coach.

“We appreciate all that Lane has done for our football program over the last three years,” Alabama Coach Nick Saban said in a statement. “We sat down following the Washington game and talked about the time demands of managing both jobs, and we recognized that it is best for our players, and for Lane, that we allow him to turn his full attention to his new head coaching role at FAU.

“This wasn’t an easy decision and we appreciate the way Lane handled this in terms of doing what is best for our team. At the end of the day, both of us wanted to put our players in the best position to be successful. Obviously, we are in a unique situation here where we have our next offensive coordinator already on staff. We have full confidence that Sark will step in right away and make this a smooth transition.”

The split time maybe? Cannot figure this out.

maybe because recruiting dead period is ending and he has to finish putting a staff together, find a house and move. but it is saban so who knows.

You could go off a deep end and say Saban is doing this to prevent Kiffin from being able to say he lead Alabama through the national title to cripple his recruiting capabilities a little bit but come on…

Alternatively you could say that even though Alabama was leading and fans were upset about his play-calling that there was enough pressure to edge him out so Alabama can instead run the ball all the time and cruise to another National Championship but does Saban and the Alabama brass really get armchair quarterbacked like that?

Saban's official statement talked about how having Lane focus on FAU would be best for the players and the program and they had decided this before the Washington game. That seems believable to me. And at the end of the day, who cares; Kiffin can still say he guided the team to the NC game. That's still true.

And if for some reason Alabama loses, it won't be on him.

Anyway, good for us.  Now he can return to building our team and recruiting - which he doesn't have a lot of time left there.

Tide has best chance to win if LK is gone.  He had the best players in the country.  Any OC from any high school could have done better than LK.  SS will be a better OC.  Good ridden to LK.

SO NO ONE wants to give Washington's D any credit? Or the fact the Bama only threw 14 passes all game and that the TRUE freshman QB "struggled" (aka stunk). But the managed the game to not lose with the D playing so well. Did their job by NOT turning the ball over with the lead.

bama has now won 26 STRAIGHT and is 42-6 with Coach K as OC.

Not bad and I hope this petulant move by Saint Nick costs him.

Go Clemson!

And welcome 100% full-time HC Coach K! Prove everyone wrong Coach K!

If Lane didn't take the FAU job, Bama fans would still dislike him but would still be happy he was their OC. Normal angry reaction. Washington was the third best team in the nation. Lane has worked wonders with Bama's young QB. Everyone knows he is a good coach. Bama fans are just mad .

This whole things seems totally above board to me. Saban was concerned about Kiffin's focus. He wants to win the national championship. We don't see Kiffin day to day. Saban may have noticed a lack of focus or didn't like the way the offense played against Washington or both. Probably both.
There are some companies out there that won't let you work out your 2 weeks notice. If you are not 100% committed to your job after resigning they don't want you there. Saban had concerns of Kiffin's commitment and focus on the last game. He said it was a mutual agreement.

Welcome to FAU coach Kiffin.

Unfortunately, all the talking-heads will turn this into a big deal (they need something to talk about since there will only be 1 FBS game left after today). Kiffin will be in a tough spot.  Just win more than you lose and some will say he does OK only because he is at a lower-lever.  Heaven forbid he struggles and he will get crucified by the press. His only chance for redemption is to run up some really big numbers (statistically and win-loss) to get back to a P5 program.  But on the surface this is either Saban being over-analytical about the whole thing or Lane's FAU job being a real distraction.  We will see, but I hope it is another motivating factor for Kiffin to really step his game up to prove he is worthy of all the hype.

So when was the last time a FAU coaching job was a National distraction? Haha.

FAU and the City of Boca Raton should be planning a welcoming parade down 20th Street (20th should be renamed Kiffin Lane).

This is priceless.  The guy didn't kill anyone, he just gets lots of media attention.

Let's Go Owls!!
