As for if/when he does leave FAU, I think the next coach kind of depends on the state of the program at the time. If the Owls are in a run of multiple C-USA championships, nice bowl appearances, putting up good fights or even beating P5 schools, etc. then you can go after a different kind of coach. Landing Kiffin after 3 straight 3-9 seasons is probably a lucky break, but Lane being successful ultimately makes the job more marketable to the next guy.
And regarding Leavitt, one of the other articles I ready somebody else already mentioned they wanted to keep Briles as the OC, but it also said they wanted to retain Jim Leavitt, too.
