I know this is a little off topic but in light of players leaving, I actually sat next to Martese Jackson in class today the RB transfer from Ft. Scott CC. I didnt even know he had arrived here yet but just so everyone knows, he made it here and is in classes.

You just show up at his dorm every day and make sure he goes to class with you…be a study buddy and we'll all get along fine  ;)
Actually he is going to start coming to study with me and some of the other guys in the class.
He said he got here in June

Re: Kooi gone.....

Yup, one of the many coming in now who did not get to be here in the spring. The new guys on campus are primarily the skill position types who WILL make an immediate impact on this team! The pressure REALLY gets turned up on last years roster members who are still here. Gonna be fun and I bet lots of players get to play vs. wagner, their final exam per se before the real season begins at MTSU eight days later!

I'd like to get one kid per season that's a qb at his hs, putting up big numbers, but being told by every aq school that wants him he has to be a cornerback. Come to fau, play quarterback.

On field success is the only thing that helps this equation in a big way.

I don't think there was ever any doubt he would make it but I saw Shalom riding his bike on campus today

Basically what I was saying, I just dont think the numbers in HS are important.  There are probably 3 or 4 kids on St. Thomas that could play DI QB that dont play QB for the school.

I expect better from you, I really do.  The numbers aren't important in HS, REALLY?  So you'll take a flyer on a kid with 2:1 interception/TD ratio?  That's bad decision making, which means he'll make bad decisions on and OFF the field.

Numbers matter and kids like Denard Robinson are flat out ATHLETES, you can see it in everything they do, so in those extremely SPECIAL circumstances, you don't look at all the numbers but you look at some.

Not all kids that WANT to be QB's at the next level should be at ANY D1 school.  The kid at Booker T in Miami right now should get nowhere close to throwing a football at the D1 level yet that's his focus, playing QB in college.  Not happening, anywhere.

Re: Kooi gone.....

You basically said what I was trying to say for me:

"Numbers matter and kids like Denard Robinson are flat out ATHLETES, you can see it in everything they do, so in those extremely SPECIAL circumstances, you don't look at all the numbers but you look at some."

Im not talking about a stupid circumstance, I'm talking special circumstances.  And a lot of times numbers in highschool are bloated or deflated for different reasons.  Put the right kid with DI wide recievers and DI O Lineman and develop them in the spread that we run he could and should be a better player than he was in high school.

Re: Kooi gone.....

Lets just put it this way, if UF would have offered Robinson as a QB instead of CB they wouldnt be in the position they are now.  They looked at Brantleys numbers while not realizing they would be putting a square peg in a round hole.  Not sure what you expect out of me, but that sure makes sense.

Re: Kooi gone.....

As a perfect example to my previous post:

Scout.com: John O'Korn Profile

Talented quarterback prospect who played primarily as a backup to a senior last season. He finished the year with 377 yards, seven touchdowns, and three picks. He also added 60 yards on the ground.

3 Star prospect who played backup QB at St. Thomas that is commited to Houston.  His 377 yards and 7 TD's mean squat.

Re: Kooi gone.....

Good example Walty. His numbers are not there but his size and what they have seen at camps have made the difference. And with the spread O, you don't have to have a "stud" qb (more needed for pro style O), you just need a quick read and release along with being mobile enough to avoid pressure when it cames and run some times.
Most good spread O's still run with the RB's a lot and don't depend on the qb running for 1,00 yards too. They get hurt and they don't read the field well enough before simply pulling the ball down and taking off. In the Belt that IS probaly good enough (think Dasher at MTSU). But was he a good qb - NO.
A good spread O passes for 4,000 yards and still runs for over 2,500 (2000 rb's and 500 qb) yards too. A bad one throws for 2,500 and runs for 2,500 (1,000+ qb and only 1,000 or so rb's). So yes we need a good athlete at qb, but he still needs to keep his eyes downfield until he passes that line of scrimmage and German does seem to do that well.
The spread O is a simple quick passing game where for passing, you have quck reads and routs and you move the chains (think street football many of us grew up playing). Hard to sack a qb when the ball is gone in 3 seconds. And the backs get more running space as with the line usually set apart wider than the pro set, the lanes can be bigger, especially since the 4 or 5 receivers EVERY PLAY cause the LB's AND safeties to not sit on the run!
