I don't expect this, but if Kiffin were fired there appears to be some protection built-in to this contract that at maximum he would get either 3-year's worth of salary (or whatever is left on the 5-year contract if there is less than 36 months left).  Am I reading that correctly?  I know that is not what anybody wants, but pretty shrewd to get that in there.  It would still be a lot of money.

Also, is it typical for a clause about the payout being reduced if the current AD or President are no longer with the university when the coach leaves?  To me that would open the door to the coach looking around should the AD or President move on.  I honestly don't know, and it seems like that is a little built-in incentive to keep Chun around as long as Kiffin is the coach (or a built-in incentive by Chun for him and Kiffin to go to their next place together - which is DEEP conspiracy-theory stuff).

Crazy that if Kiffen comes in and has 2-3 great years and decides to leave….the buyout clause basically makes FAU whole on what we paid him to coach for those years.  Essentially, if Kiffen wins for 3 years and leaves for a "better" job, we will have paid him a total of $1.2m (or $400k) for those 3 years.

Whomever drew this up and got it signed (my feeling is President Kelly), unbelievable job.

Teambeer is the most knowledgeable FAU sports fan I know, way smarter than me.

Whoever recruits him away will be paying that money, but your point is understood.  We would net out in pretty good shape if he left after or during the end of his third season notwithstanding his bonus and incentive structure.

Coach is going to get some TBD incentives…yes, they are honestly, still TBD.

Anyway at bare minimum he should reach level B (page 4 link below), which is a bowl invite, but could reach E which is Top 25 provided we knock off USF or the likes.

I don't have time to submit a records request so if anyone wants to find how much those could be before it is published, feel free….

Looks like we all have something to be excited about this football season.

Being in the conference championship game, winning the conference championship game, going to a bowl game, landing in the top 25, Conference USA coach of the year, national coach of the year.

Let's see how things shape out!
