Lane Kiffin Lawsuit article

Post

From SECCountry

This is, best I can tell, the original article.

As you can imagine, other Kiffin-hungry sites are jumping on it.

Other articles are saying it's a fraud lawsuit… has anyone seen anything mention that a contract was signed by this guy? Or it was just a verbal agreement about a job?

Sorry Charlie, fork stays in the napkin when you bring this dish to the table:

"Carter was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia by Tallahassee (Fla.) police in March 2010. He was arrested in November 2010 on a failure to appear on the drug charge. He also had to two arrests for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended or revoked license in 2014, one in May of that year by the Florida Highway Patrol and the other by Florida State University police in November." - USA Today

99.9% that once the University did their homework (which Kiffin wasn't privy to) that was a game changer. Now the guy wants to retaliate because he got his hopes up, etc.

Whatever…

Coach K can offer a job to anyone he wants but the University has to vet it and approve it. Did not happen for this Dude!

Not sure who would leave their job without a signed offer letter. Tough situation, hope something works out for him, but this is frivolous.

I can't find anything about whether a contract was signed. I take that to mean it wasn't.

I further assume reporters either didn't think to ask this question (have we really gotten that lazy?) or they don't want to mention there was no contract because it would "soften the story".

Unfortunately, I think the most likely event is that everyone is just parroting the original article without looking at the original lawsuit documents or interviewing anyone and just added their own two cents making Kiffin and FAU out to be the bad guys for… not hiring a guy who failed their criminal background check?

Which is especially perplexing from those reporters who took Kiffin and FAU to task for hiring Briles. And there were quite a few of them.

Alright one outlet is saying a contract was signed and the job offering was made "without any contingencies" - which is strange because passing a background check has been a mandatory contingency everywhere I've applied and you think it's especially the case when working with young athletes… at a state institution, no less.

There is no such thing as no contingencies. Background check or bust with the State.

SI had a lawyer look at it HERE.

Should be the most thorough explanation of what happened (and what will likely happen in court)

Other than possible settlement news, I can't imagine there being more to reveal about it. The guy is owed payment for work done but not a job.

I don't see a substantive argument from the media/fans to hold this against Kiffin in the long run, though I'm sure many will try.

Wish we could have hired him, a good recruiter obviously.

But it is not up to the Coaches or even the AD or even the President to approve a hire. he was notified IN WRITING of the background check!

Pay him $10K for his efforts and expenses and the $4K for moving expenses again and move on!
