Looking Ahead to UAB

The stats from Texas are not a true reflection of what we can do on the ground.

The line is changing again…

We need Nick Paris back to truly be our "best"…that changes everything!

Re: Looking Ahead to UAB

ESPN blog prediction from Graham Watson:

Florida Atlantic 32, UAB 25: I think this is going to be an offense showdown with little defense. FAU might have gotten smoked by Texas, but it was able to move the ball in the first half. Turnovers just killed them. UAB put up some points against Tulsa, but its defense could contain Tulsa's potent offense. More of the same against FAU this weekend.

That would be a dissapointing win for me.  We need to come out and play defense.  If we surrender 25 points, that makes me really worried because our defensive struggles haven't been resolved.

I agree. The FAU should not give up 25 points to UAB. I think 17 is the maximum and the offense needs 35 plus out of this game.

Re: Looking Ahead to UAB

I'd love to hang a 40 plus point game out there on them.  Take them to the woodshed Rusty!

UAB is ranked about 100th in D1A. we let up 25 points to them that's a joke.

While UAB is ranked 100th, our defense was ranked near the bottom of ALL D-I football teams in almost every major category last season.  Not to be crude but our defense has always been a joke.

That isn't true.  There have been years where our defense has carried the team.  I also think this year's unit has the makings of a pretty good D.  It didn't show last week, but going into play Texas in Austin can make any team look bad.  I think we have to put that game out of our minds.  That performance was in no way indicative of what kind of team this is.  Against teams like UAB and the rest of the SBC, our defense should be plenty good enough to win.

The defensive statistics the past few seasons have been skewed by the fact that we have played a number of BCS conference teams.  Clearly we aren't ready to compete consistently at that level, especially on the road.  Luckily we aren't trying to win the Big 12 this year.  We'll be fine once the talent level is more even.  The goals remains the same this season:  1. Win the SBC and get back to the NO Bowl and 2. Win at least one more non-conference game then we did last year.  Both goals remain well within our reach.

Not going to do research, but I know that our defense wasn't good even in SunBelt play last season.  We will not be good enough to win on defense, we will be good enough to outscore on offense…which will make us an inconsistant team if we do not fix that.
