The waitress at the cracker barrel wouldnt take my order becasue she was too busy talking about FAU and the bowl game.  when i told her that i was there she freaked out.

Just got back from campus. Bought some cool stuff at the book store. You can see the tide starting to turn on campus. Just from walking from the garage by the library to the bookstore I saw a lot of people wearing FAU gear. This is good news because when I was at FAU and lived on campus you'd very rarely see anyone wearing FAU stuff especially on campus. It was mostly Miami stuff, like there's always that 1 guy who wears his UM t-shirt to an FAU basketball game or an FAU baseball game.

I was wearing NO. Bowl championship T-Shirt in circuit ciy and the cashier asked me where she can get one of those. I said they had some at the bookstore but I got this one on line… Owl Fever, it's contagious!

The tide is definitely changing. I really don't see much gear from other schools. And I don't want this to get into a "what I see versus what you see" debate. I see an FSU hat here or there and UF shirts but it's not that bad at all.

I do see a LOT of FAU shirts, pants, hats… people are always looking over at the clothing when I'm in the bookstore. I think the bookstore's use of differnet colors, not just red and blue but also pinks and even camouflage, as well as graphic designs that wouldn't look out of place at Abercrombie or the like, have definitely helped to convince people to wear this stuff.

I think most students feel on the fence about FAU – they don't love it but they don't hate it either – and so if the clothing looks nice or feels nice, sure, they'll buy some FAU gear. I also think a lot of those people who were on the fence about the school are not keeping it a secret that FAU won a bowl game. I hear "only Florida school to win a bowl game" a lot. If someone from UF or FSU says that FAU is not even in the college football conversation, you can counter with… come on, we won a Bowl game. That's a legitimate counter-argument.

The attitude about FAU is going to change in a couple of years but I don't think it's going to be as good as it can be. President Brogan envisions 5500 people living on-campus. I imagine 8000+. Not only that, I envision FAU having as high as 25% being from out of state (it's currently ~5%). I don't quite understand why FAU doesn't have more out-of-state applicants… how easy of a sell is this:

You go up to Michigan, New Hampshire, Boston, etc to all the high schools in the dead of winter. You give a presentation of just hand out brochures with pictures of people laying in hammocks by the beach. You show palm tree-lined sidewalks, people on longboards, etc. Simple as that. High school students don't have to know anything else about FAU except that it's warm all the time and it's right by the beach.

Bowl Champions, Innovation Village, New Fitness Center, one of the safest universities in Florida, etc is all just icing on the cake.

Within the state, you hit up every high school that's more than an hour away, especially Tampa, Orlando, Panhandle, even Gainesville. You say to THOSE kids… LOOK, you can come to FAU with some friends, get away from your parents and do whatever you want… then go home for the holidays.

It's really just that easy.
