Marvin Sanders leaving for USC

Marvin Sanders leaving for USC

When we start losing coaches to Ark St then we can freak out about being in the middle of the pack, keeping in mind the lack of state tax and the fact that youre living in florida adds into the comp as well.

We will always be exposed to this, especially with pelinis young guns staff. Infact, we should expect to lose at least one a year Id say. The sun belt is a perfect proving ground for inexperienced coaches at the d1 level and is a nice little nest for the bcs schools to swoop in and take what they want. We never dealt with it because of Howards age but think of the best two coordinators weve had…Id say Gary Nord and Brian Brohm…both hired away.

And finding a grad assistant to be the defensive coordinator?? Cmon.

If anyone follows Shalom Ogbonda on twitter, this is what he had to say:

"goodluck to him. We gotta move on and focus on the goal."

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

nicely said by Shalom. I'm pretty sure Coach P, will make a hire relatively quickly since spring practice is around the corner.

Not a big fan of Ted. But he does make a pretty good point.

I agree the comment is harsh but I DO FEEL that an adult has the responsibility to do the right thing and to tell USC sorry but I have made a commitment here for this year, especially being the DC!

Come on. He's been here all of two months. He's living out of a hotel. The season hasn't started. Practice hasn't started. The guy really doesn't owe us anything.

It's not just a coaching thing. People in Florida quit their jobs all the time out of nowhere, whether they've been there 20 minutes or 20 years.

No one's immune, not even USC. Case in point: they lost Pete Carroll to the Seahawks when they were doing well and had to replace him.

Pete Carroll left because of the heat he was about to face with Reggie Bush.

Very well said.  To add to this, we should actually be somewhat excited about Pelini's eye for talented coaches as well as his connections within the coaching community.  Coaching connectivity is HUGE for a HC, especially during his first rodeo.

Does it sting?  Yeah, a bit.  But let's be realistic and move on to the most qualified candidate to fill this position.

Very true. Coach P will find someone quickly to fill the void.

You don't think he talked to Pelini before he took the job? He likely did and Pelini was cool with it because the defense will be his anyway. He did not really need Sanders, especially when he was not that good of a recruiter.

Marvin is one of the best Defensive Back coaches available.  He has DC experience, he's going to mop up in Southern California with the talent they have.  This move likely tripled or nearly tripled Marvin's income for the coming year and placed him as a coach on of the three most talented football teams in America.

What this tells me is - Carl had the right guy, wish FAU had gotten at least a year out of him before this happened.  But I don't think you could fault Sanders for taking a great opportunity like this.  For those of you that aren't aware, Lane Kiffin's father (Monte), is a Cornhusker from way back, was part of the group that recommended Bo Pelini for the NU DC job in 2003.  Monte's other son was a GA for Nebraska up until Lane reclaimed him a couple years ago.  So, as much as I'm NOT a Lane fan,  I am very much a fan of his father and I'm certain that's what is behind this hire.  Don't be surprised if the day Monte calls it quits at USC as DC that Sanders may get that chance there.  Monte is over a $1mm as an asst in charge of defense at USC…

Bummer for FAU, for sure.

You're right Ronnie…even a move to go work with Monte Kiffen for a year or two is worth it. Hell, I could probably become a defensive genius with that guy teaching me!

If I were Coach P, I would lodge a complaint, but that is just me.
