Replace what?  His resume?  That's basically all he was for us…he certainly didn't do anything of importance here in his 2 months.  As long as whoever the next DC is steps onto the practice field, he'll have more than filled the void left by Sanders…

Hard to replace his experience as a DC at the FBS level. He was the DC at UNC for a few years. Most of the guys we have are FCS folks who are moving up and have great potential. I have no issue with that. To me what made Marvin such a solid hire was his experience at FBS.

There are not a lot of those guys floating around right now after all the hiring. I trust Coach Pelini will get a good replacement.

Luckily we have someone on staff that was the DC at Nebraska the past 4 years.

Sanders was obviously a quality hire, but to me he' not  much of a loss because he wasn't here long enough to have done anything.  One thing I am certain of is that Carl Pelini knows defense.  I'm sure we'll find a quality replacement.

Re: Marvin Sanders leaving for USC

Im not overly "worried" per se.

Having Coach Sanders on staff meant that he didnt need to worry or handle the D becuase he had someone who had experience and could take his philosophy and run with it. This would of freed him up to other parts of game day.

Im sure it will be fine, the damage was minimal if any.

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

You're right Ronnie…even a move to go work with Monte Kiffen for a year or two is worth it. Hell, I could probably become a defensive genius with that guy teaching me!

I think you are right - there are a number of coaches that learned the craft from Monte, doing the Tampa 2.

As I understand it, he is heck of a decent guy too.
Unlike his miserable son.

You sir, have a bingo.

Q: "What does it mean to you to take this job after signing day? Did you feel badly for the kids you signed at FAU that you don't get to coach?"

A: "I think I signed five or six kids down there, and it's always tough whenever you leave, either before recruiting or after. If you're recruiting a bunch of kids and you leave, that staff has to catch up. If you leave right after recruiting, the kids you signed that thought they were going to have an opportunity to play for you don't. That, to me, is a really hard thing. Even though guys for the most part understand that the coach has to do what's best for his family and his career, that is tough, because you start building relationships and getting to know guys."

Re: Marvin Sanders leaving for USC

USC pass defense middle of the pack both in the PAC12 and nationally but they did have a great 18 TD's allowed to 19 INT's ratio on pass D! Personally wish we could have kept him, he should NEVER have gone to work for Lame Kiffin and his daddy who has already run from that sinking ship! How does USC score only 7 vs. the very same Ga. Tech D who gave up 48 to MTSU?
