MidSeason Grades for the Owls

Post

We are a little bit past the halfway point of the season, and here are what I figured out what the grades might be for the team so far. Feel free to interject your own opinions on the grades or feel free to interject your own grades.

Offense: (B) The offense got this grade for the past performances over the past four games, but poor play calling by the OC, along with taking to long to find its identity and the QB who would be the leader of this offense. However, with Quez Johnson running the show, and putting up the numbers, it helped salvage the grade.

Defense: (C+) The defense has come into its own as the season has progressed but they have given up big gains, and big plays, but they have increased their sack totals this season, as well as turnovers. They have all flown to the ball, but they have also made mental mistakes as well as missed key tackles. With Reaser out for the rest of the season, it is up to the younger players to step up and make the plays.

Special Teams: (D) We all know the reason why this grade is so low. Mitch Anderson has been a disaster this season, missing field goals, extra points and kicking the ball out of bounds on kick offs. Sean Kelly has had some struggles but has been the MVP of the special teams this season by pinning opponets deep with his booming punts. The special teams has given up some big returns as well.

Overall: (C) The team has improved statsically and in their play from last season and has made some plays. However mental mistakes did effect them in the early part of the season and as well as late during the past few games. However some blame lays with the coaches on play calling and getting the right personnel in place.

Here's to going 4 out of 5 the remainder of the season.

Offense: B-

The first two games were disasters. The last five has Johnson looking like the running version of Graham Wilbert as far as turnaround goes.

Defense: B-

Pass coverage is the best the team has ever had. The run, well…….

Special Teams: D

Return drops, FG kicking. Should be better - period.

Overall: C+

We gave away two games. The record should be 4-3 instead of 2-5. Should that be the case you are looking at a B+. Regardless, don't believe anyone truly "expected" us to be there.

This where word "Team" come into play Grasshopper. You no grasp concept.

Ratings above from totality standpoint, not specific individual's responsibility over few plays that cause Ying-Yang shift within two games balance, as noted.

Wise observation this far…

PPG 2012:

FAU 20.8  Opponents 30.8

PPG 2013:

FAU 22.3  Opponents 26.0

Master Po total difference…….

+6.3 points Owls way with soft competition after Saturday, and bright forecast on horizon.

Pro-gresss…….

Ok other then what I think is a very overrated UM at this point we last year we had already played UGA and BAMA so if we had them early this year the pooint per a game difference might be reflective of last year.

Its funny how statistics are only valid for negative comments. The UGA and BAMA statement is just just an assumption. Its my first time posting but I have been a supporter for years now, and a long time reader of this page, and the improvement of the team this year is obvious. Is the first time in many years I see our team in the game all the way through the end. It is possible to have a passing grade and still have a negative record because the last 3 games were lost not because we had a bad football game, but because of inexperience on and out of the field. Should we have made the early field goal against Marshall your point of view might have been different.
Go Owls.

No it is not possible to have a passing grade and have a losing record.
Remember Herm Edwards said you play to win the game!
Your moral victory fans are so annoying please hold us to a higher standard.

Herm Edwards was discussing professional football not college...you know the league build for parity with salary caps and free agency.

And its also possible to have a winning record and a failing grade….check UF.

Again, this isn't the pros.  Each team doesn't split revenues equally…you cant make trades to fill voids from injuries, dropouts, etc or pickup free agents mid-season.

We dont go to a draft room and get the best players available after going 1-11…its the opposite, going 1-11 further hurts the program due to bad recruiting.  Losing like that is like quick sand in college football.

The problem with OC40 and fans such as himself is they dont understand the difference between college football and professional football.  In college football you have to recruit and wait for the players to develop…its a big ship that can only be turned so fast.  Most think ours is turning in the right direction….OC40 thinks we are the Dallas Cowboys and should be able to fix it over night through I dont know…magic?
