I would like to see Leach at FAU as much as anyone, but there seems to be way too much speculation regarding his interest in FAU. Just because we want him does not mean that he wants us. There is no loyalty to FAU. So what, he likes South Florida. That tells us nothing about his feelings positive, negative, or indifferent about FAU. For all we know he is sitting at home laughing at the possibility of ever coaching in the SBC.

I hope he does think of FAU as a viable option, but realistically I would rather coach in a BCS conference than in the SBC and I imagine someone of his caliber thinks the same.

I didn't mean loyal to FAU, I just meant in general..someone asked him why he stayed at Tech for 10 years, he said, "Because they asked me to." Now I am not naive enough to think NOTHING about money but my argument for why he would want to come here has nothing to do with money, it has to do with the fact that he wants to get back into coaching.

It is just like HS and Jarvis..would they have left Louisville or St. Johns for FAU? Of course not, we were fortunate enough to get them because they just happened to be living in south Florida and we just happened to have a coaching spot open, it's the same thing.

And I know Leach has applied to bigger schools but they did not want to take the chance on him..that sound familiar? A coach who had a bit of baggage from his previous place of employment so no one hired him?

Leach would be a great catch, but I don't think we should believe that just because he is in S. Florida he has an interest.

I guess it all depends on whether or not he has other viable options. If he has been blackballed by the BCS then it might not be a longshot that we get him. However, I think he will wait to see how the season plays out and what his options are in December. He would be foolish not to do so.

I agree that a South Florida location alone probably is not enough to attract Mr. Leach. This gent spent years in Lubbock, Texas. And, with due respect to the nice folks of Lubbock (including a good friend), if he's willing to go there, he's likely willing to go to a lot of less-than-spectacular places. My guess is that opportunity, prestige and money motivate him. FAU has opportunity, to be sure. It can build prestige with the help of excellent coaching, recruiting and luck. But can it pay?

I just got onto facebook the other day (yes, I know I'm like the last person on earth to do it) and did a search for "Hire Mike Leach".  Apparently we're not the only ones looking at him.  I don't know how to post or link the results, but I remember seeing several names on the list including:

I agree, I didn't really understand the USC one, Spurrier has done a great job up there.

25. Mike Leach still doesn't have a team to coach. Some program in need of a new coach is bound to contact Leach. Yes, he's outspoken. Yes, he's eccentric. Yes, he's involved in litigation against his former employer, Texas Tech. But he also made Texas Tech nationally relevant and fielded entertaining teams. He was 84-43 in 10 seasons in Lubbock, and each of his last nine teams ranked no lower than 15th in the nation in scoring offense. A struggling program with a stagnant offense should be interested in Leach, who by the way, also is a surfing enthusiast.

Sounds like they are talking about FAU. I think he is worth the roll of the dice (if we could get him).
