Each conference ususally has their own rules. I'm not sure how the Sun Belt does it. Years ago, I know the Big 10 would split it this way: The team in the Bowl would get half the money, and the other conference members would split the remaining half. So if the conference received several bowl bids, the enire conference really benefits after all the sharing.

Wow! Seems like MTSU actually wound up the winner afterall. Granted it is not 17 mil. but it sure would have been nice for FAU to get an extra 750,000 bonus in our x-mas stocking this year.

Doesn't the whole conference share the bowl revenue?

Whether or not the Sunbelt does shared earnings… I am not sure. However, all the BCS teams do.

SunBelt Conference members do share.

That said, the Motor City Bowl payout is misleading. The teams have an opportunity to make $750k, if they sell all their ticket allotments. MTSU did not come close to that, and in fact, the SunBelt agreed to pay $250,000 to MTSU to help it break even on costs.

The New Orleans Bowl payout is just that. Ticket sales are a bonus to the participating schools.

I hope the conference also paid some cash to Troy - the conference champion (although viewers might have been seriously misled if they watched toe MTSU video on TV last night). That was disgusting, Blue Raiders. You might have been co-champs, technically, but to tell the world you are champion - when in fact you lost to the champion - is just plan deceitful.

The money is divided up between conference members although the team in the bowl gets the largest piece of the pie. That is why the BCS is so exclusionary. It not only helps the teams that make the BCS year in and year out, it helps all of the teams in the said conferences. Therefore, Indiana gets some cash for Ohio State and Michigan playing in BCS games. Mississippi State benefits from Florida and LSU. GO OWLS!!!

I saw that too and I thought something wasn't quite right. I started to question who was the true SBC champ. The SBC should fine MTSU for making that commercial and airing it. I am surprised that nobody else caught that. I guess MTSU really thought they were deserving. I wonder if all of the players received SBC championship rings ;). Revisionist history at its finest :-X. GO OWLS!!!

I saw that as well and thought how much MTSU are in total denial, yes they where tied with Troy who in turn beat the Smurf Puppies in their own house for that matter and the conference Title does solely belong to Troy and is not a shared title.

The money is divided like Bmarkey mentioned and the SBC will also recieve some money form the BCS conference with Boise State playing in one of the BCS Bowl games, since they are not affliliated with a BCS conference, the rest of the non-BCS conference will benefit. So, in essence this is a very good year for the SBC as far as revenues is concerned as it continues to grow.
