this was on the CUSA message board…

not that their vote means anything to the CUSA Board & ADs involved, but it shows what people are looking at… the now! and 49 votes for FIU to replace UCF vs FAU's 12 votes (and 2 of those are me and Owlfamily).

FIU might have had plenty of bad seasons, but they are on the up and up, beating teams or giving AQ teams close games… they are the team now.

Obviously, CUSA will need several teams to replace the missing ones, but just be ready because we could be left behind this alignment too!

The average fan doesn't think of generating revenue through TV dollars, the board members do and the understand that concept.

You know Ball State almost went to the SEC after thier 12-0 season in 2006?

SERIOUSLY!!!!!   what good is TV dollars if people are NOT watching… we have no fan base. Just because there are millions of TVs in our area, they are watching "Everyone Loves Raymond" reruns and not FAU football, so it means squat if you don't have the fan base!!!!

Point and case… NY has the biggest TV market, but NOT the most fans…

Show me the TV numbers for before and after USF went to the Big East…that would be an accurate comparison.

Re: New Conference Realignment Shenanigans

yeah. moving to a AQ big east sure your numbers will go up, but we are looking at CUSA, how many more fans we going to have jump on the owl bandwagon to see a Marshall or Rice?

All I'm saying is it's not just about TVs… but more about the fans viewing those TVs. The bottom line is we have to get back to winning to build our fans, basketball is doing well because of that. Improve our facilities and the rest will come….. that's all it is!

OK lets clear one thing up here basketball does not matter in any of this as Pitt. and the Cuse proved but year like i have said many times on this broad it is about who is winning now FIU is way ahead of now. Howard should have been gone last year we needed to stop the downward spiral and we didn't. I do not know how many more times i will have to say this.
Hopefully never again, let it go! You are coming across as quite the jerk now.

Of course I agree that winning will help.  No doubt.  But beating Arkansas State isn't drawing large numbers of fans, beating West Virginia and Pitt on TV is.

Well we can't even beat a terrible NT team so we have a long way to go. And there is no chance of us going to the BE right now… like I said, we are going to be playing Marshall, UAB & Rice etc… not much better than the SB teams IMHO.

2) FIU has a higher home attendance than FAU

The word going around is that superconferences will bring back the minimum seating capacity requirements tht the NCAA used to have. It used to be 30k, which means FIU would have to build out. They're a little short.

Re: New Conference Realignment Shenanigans

When they negotiate the media contract it is about the size of the media market, not the actual viewers, you think lots of people are actaully watching Temple play Eastern Michigan in a MAC conference game? The answer is NO! If you compare any tv number of FAU playing ULL or FAU playing West Virginia or Rutgers or… the number will jump and they know that.
They just need the overall numbers in the market to sell advertising to whomever and the bigger the overall market the bigger the number they can charge for.
Why did the BigEast take S. Florida a few years back and select a program MANY HUNDREDS of miles form its closest new conference member?
Great football tradition - NO, great football program - NO, great on-campus Stadium - NO, great local rivalry - NO!
Good media market as opposed to Marshall or East Carolina - YES.
If we are not trying to get in the game (or even keep in the game) now than we may just be shut-out FOREVER into a new DII level. NOT the way to sell 30,000 seats or het decent recruits. If we get left behind and UCF gets into the BigEast and FIU gets into CUSA, our recruiting (Coach and players)and ticket sales will go right down the toilet FOREVER. LOBBY hard for the Best FAU, NOW is not only the time, it may be the ONLY time left!
