New Conference Realignment Shenanigans

Big12 needs 10 teams for next season to fulfill their media contract and BigEast is holding up WV move for a couple of years - FAU - APPLY NOW!

Big12 gets their foot into the Florida media and recruiting markets (take that SEC for stealing A&M - they should have considered USF or UCF to me!)) and they like their patsies too! ;)

Re: New Conference Realignment Shenanigans

While it would be nice to move to a better conference, when all is said and done don't be surprised if we're still in the Belt and nothing has changed

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Re: New Conference Realignment Shenanigans

I'm more worried that CUSA decides that only one team will suffice in the S. Florida market and it becomes a fight between FAU and FIU!

I just want to go if they go, or stay if they stay, or go and leave them here :)

That to me is the worst case scenario.  If for some reason they do decide on 1 South Florida team who does everyone think goes?  I believe outside of the last two years we beat them in most categories but obviously I looked at it with rose colored glasses.

What does everyone think?

GO OWLS!

Re: New Conference Realignment Shenanigans

I think FAU has more to offer.

However, on the last televised FIU game the commentators kept playing up the stadium and how it could easily be expanded to 45,000 and how beautiful the campus was. I don't know how much this matters, but it does seem that FIU has momentum on their side even though we have the brand new stadium and have been the dominant team historically.

GO OWLS!!!

I wouldn't be nervous about it if it were a home run.

FIU has us beat in many categories. Education is rated higher, they have a greater endowment, larget alumni base and support, larger student base.

FAU wins in facilities, track record, potentially location as we're not right next to UM so we have a different media market.

I hpoe it doesn't come down to it because I don't know what drives those decisions. FAU has unbelieveable potential but so does FIU.

Plus I believe FIU is in C-USA for Men's soccer are they not? That may be their way in as well. We're in the MAC and I think they're in C-USA

So we are comparing who is more well endowed now?

Re: New Conference Realignment Shenanigans

Oh good…another thread about how we stack up to FIU.  In the eyes of a conference like CUSA, the two schools are the same.  The bottom line is that if CUSA takes FAU, they'll likely also grab FIU and visa versa.

Let's say CUSA loses UCF, SMU, and UH.  That leaves them with Southern Miss, Tulane, ECU, Marshall, Rice, UTEP, Memphis, Tulsa, and UAB.  So do you really think they'd add in just FAU or just FIU and have a team in Florida who's closest conference opponent is, what?  800+ miles away in UAB and Southern Miss, and over a thousand miles away from everyone else?  No.  If they are smart, they'll add the two Florida schools and maybe UNT.

Re: New Conference Realignment Shenanigans

They lose 2 texas schools and 1 florida school…depends on how they look at it, they were fine with UCF being the only Florida school in the conference for the last few years. Perhaps they see the state of Texas is more valuable for their recruiting efforts…before you know it, University of the Incarnate Word is in CUSA!  :D

I'm just playing devil's advocate, we shouldn't assume we're locked in.
