If our defense shows up we should win by 20+ against UAB. Rusty showed that he can move the ball and the O-line held up very well against Texas. One week from now we should be feeling a whole lot better about the prospects for this season.

GO OWLS!!!

What defense? The one that we don't have?

Note: I said if they show up. Obviously they didn't even get on the plane for the Texas game. However, we still have to remember that these guys do have talent and experience. They have the tools, they just need use them. Something that I think will prove more feasible against UAB.

I don't think we can expect a lights out performance from the defense against UAB, but hopefully we can rip off 40+ points and hold UAB to 20 or so.

GO OWLS!!!

I did notice you said IF.  But, my point is we simply do not have a defense.  Period.

As a UT fan, I would not just judge your defense's performance based on that one game alone.  McCoy with a good O-line is a freaking surgeon.   That was the difference between his freshman and sophomore seasons, the entire o-line needed to be replaced, rebuilt, or suffered injuries.   I do not know if the O-line put it together or if your D-line fell apart.  Verdict is still out.

In spite of what ESPN tells you, and our own fans, Greg Davis is one of the top offensive coordinators in the country and has produced some prolific offenses.  You are the new kid on the block,  expect to get knocked around, but hold fast, you have the talent to recruit from down there, but you have your work cut out for you with UCF, USF, and UF exploiting the problems at FSU and Miami more and more.

Your kidding right?

The last 2 years have been nothing but swing outs, dump downs, quick slants, same boring offense. Atleast last night, from the radios perspective, we were able to some plays down field with considerable YAC.

Every Horns fan is critical of GD's playbook.

I disagree. The defense did not show up against Texas, but we are putting 11 skilled guys on the field when the other team has the ball. They have the ability to play well. They just didn't do it. I expect improvement from them as the season goes on.

GO OWLS!!!

Re: New talk

I don't get all of the negative talk after last night.  The game sucked, but in my mind, it doesn't change anything.  We still should be able to compete with all of the other teams on our schedule and we still should win the conference.  It seems people had some unrealistic expectations of the game yesterday.  No matter how good we may be, I don't know why people were expecting to walk into Austin and win.  Not many teams do.  Not many Big 12 teams do.  A play here and there and the game could have been a little closer, but for now it's in the past.

The bottom line is that we are still in fine shape.  We have an extremely winnable OOC game next week.  We should beat UAB handily.  They are not a very good team.  They couldn't stop Tulsa at home yesterday and they won't slow down Rusty and the offense.  I'm sure that the D will be much improved as well.  The one thing we know about the Owls and this coaching staff is that they always bounce back from disappointing efforts.  Last season we lost 42-6 at OK State and then cameback home and beat Minnesota.  Then we got blasted in Kentucky and came back with a terrific effort against USF.  In the playoff season of 2003, we somehow got killed at home by Valdosta State and then came back and nearly upset UCF in Orlando and went on to a great season.  So we know Schnelly and the coaches will learn from this game and have the team ready to go next week.  Cheer up Owls fans.  Things will seem a lot better a week from today!  Go Owls!

Everyone will turn that frown upside down when the blazers come to town

If we want to beat Texas we need a stadium, 350 lb linemen, and consistent play.  Maybe 2010.

If we don't blast UAB on Saturday it will be a major disappointment to me.

Either a major disappointment or a call to come back down earth, I dunno.

ok, that did make me a little bit happier!!!

UAB doesnt have anything near what UT has. We have to execute and keep the mistakes to a minimun (ie turnovers and penalties) and the rest will take care of itself.

Re: New talk

Does everybody on this board think we would beat USC, LSU, Oklahoma?  Texas is right there with them, and if you think we can beat those three teams please stop smoking crack before coming back to the board.

Haha…That is what I don't understand about everyone that is depressed about the Texas loss.  How many teams go into Austin and win? Not many.  We were never expected to win.  Keeping the score closer would have been nice, but we missed some chances and then pulled the starters early in the 2nd half.  The rest of the schedule should and will be much more competitive.
