New York Times Pre-Season: The Quad Countdown

AlexFAU06 said

Where is FAU listed? and where are the other conference opponents?
Could somebody please add the remaining teams?

GO OWLS.

They add a team each article they do - "counting up"…we should appear somewhere in the 80's…

They had us at 68th last year, ahead of Troy and UCF.  ;D

We should appear somewhere in the high 60's in my opinion.

trying to be optimistic, but realistic at the same time with the defensive losses ;D

High 60's?  We didn't even finish runner up in the Belt, had a 6-6 record, and got extremely lucky to get into and win the Motor City Bowl.

High 60's might be a bit optimistic, but what the neck at least we won't have so much hype heading into the season.

I think we should be happy if we end up right around last year's ranking.

Re: New York Times Pre-Season

i've said this before, we are nothing more then a mediocre sunbelt team.
Sat, Aug 30 at (11) Texas L 10-52 – Embarrassing
Sat, Sep 6 UAB W 49-34 – Won but they put a lot of points up, one more touchdown by them and its a one score game
Sat, Sep 13 at Michigan State L 0-17 – Embarrassed
  Sat, Sep 20 at Minnesota L 3-37 – Embarrassed
Tue, Sep 30 at Middle Tennessee L 13-14 – Embarrassing loss on the last play of the game
Tue, Oct 7 Troy L 17-30 – Played like a high school team, balls bouncing off our helmets. We were HOME, should have been our advantage not theres.
Sat, Oct 18 at Western Kentucky W 24-20 – 4pt win vs a fresh 1A team, nothing to brag about.
  Sat, Oct 25 at Louisiana-Monroe W 29-28 – 1 pts win
Sat, Nov 8 North Texas W 46-13 – Good win.
  Sat, Nov 15 Louisiana-Lafayette W 40-29 – Good win
Sat, Nov 22 at Arkansas State L 14-28 – Didn't move the ball in the 2nd half.
Sat, Nov 29 Florida International W 57-50 – Lucky as hell

Postseason
  Date Opponent Time/Result Audio
Fri, Dec 26 at Central Michigan W 24-21 Lucky to be here, Howard was the only reason. Good win but I still think their QB was hurt.

3 good wins
4 lucky/close wins
1 loss for not playing in the 2nd half
5 embarrassing losses

If it wasn't for Howard we never would have gone to a bowl game. ASU beat Texas a+m and us. If I were them I would be pissed. If we didn't go to the bowl game, last season would not have been looked on as successful. We're lucky as hell. When two of our six wins came against some of the worst teams in the country, WKU+NT, it leaves us with four wins vs. teams that are in the 80-110 ranking area. I don't see how anyone can justify us being anything better then 80. When two teams that are 100th country play someone has to win.

If the sunbelt gets some nonconference victories this year, like going .500, then a 8-4 season would be good. If its another 'sunbelt year' then a 8-4 record is nothing to write home about because were still losing two sunbelt games and beating two teams that are Sunbelt level competition in wyoming and uab.

South Carolina should be a winnable game. There a 40th rpi team. That should be winnable.

Great points, however….Pre-season rankings have nothing to do with the teams performance from the previous season, they are to project what a team will do in the UPCOMING season.  We have the best QB in the SunBelt with 4 years experience with a ton of Senior/Junior talent around him…high 60's low 70's isnt overly optomistic.

No we shouldn't, we should be making strides every year.  Rusty had a seperated shoulder for the first half of the season last year…why would we be happy with the same results his Senior year w/Harmon back?
