Next FAU Coach?

Re: Next FAU Coach?

Next FAU Coach?

My wish list is as follows (In Order):

I first want to make sure we do not promote within; there is no one in the organization that can take us to the next level.  This is Angelos' time to shine and make a bold move to get someone in here that can make things happen.

1. Urban Meyer
2. Mike Leach
3. Terry Bowden
4. Gary Nord

Re: Next FAU Coach?

Do you guys realize, and I beleive Coach knew this as well, that with that many good names on the list, we are gonna be able to sign a big name coach to lead this program into the future. Especially from Leach, Davis, Shannon and Leavitt, all have big negatives, with their names now and will not get offers from BigSix conferences now. AT LEAST one of them will get nervous and jump at the opportunity to get back in the game! With one of them in charge and the new stadium, recruiting will JUMP THROUGH THE ROOF!
But my vote will always be with Leach, offense sells tickets and that is priority number one. Gotta pay for the stadium and turn a profit and if we have strong attendance and sell out our home games WE WILL be attractive and be invited to a better conference.
In addition, with good attendance, all other sports will benefit from the profits the stadium devives, especially basketball (new arena!) and baseball (serious stadium upgrades).
GO OWLS!

Re: Next FAU Coach?

Can these big names coaches hire decent coordinators and assistants on FAU's budget?

Definitely do not want to see Leavitt at FAU - way way too much baggage there.

Re: Next FAU Coach?

First off, I like Leach and I think both Leavitt and Meyer are very good coaches. Nord has ties, but he hasn't had enough success as a head coach to be in the conversation. If FAU hires Nord it is going to be a financial move to save money and I will be very disappointed.

I think Bowden makes the most sense. He seems to be far less of an ego-maniac than any of the others. His head wasn't too big to swallow his pride go from the SEC to a D-II program. I don't think any of the others on the list would even think of making a move like that.

Bowden has Florida ties.

He is from one of college football's most respected families, arguably college football's first family.

Bowden can check his ego at the door.

Bowden isn't looking to take the fast lane to the next big job. That means he might be content to stick around at FAU.

Bowden doesn't carry any baggage.

Re: Next FAU Coach?

I do not know how much the next coach will get paid but if Howard makes 400k I'd expect it to be around that considering we also have a Basketball coach that needs to get paid…One solution is I am not busy next year and I will do it for half the cost…or we could also look at some coordinators from other schools who have S.Fla ties…I do think head coach of FAU is an attractive job offer

I'll help too; for the other 200k!  That's two for one…………………….

Re: Next FAU Coach?

say what you will about shannon at UM…he had no talent at QB at that was his downfall.  Same reason Meyer went 7 and 5 last year.

I would be thrilled with Shannon or Leach.  Don't underestimate how bad Shannon would like to bring FAU to prominance and shove it up UM's arse.  That kind of motivation with his established relationships in south florida with head coaches at high schools could be just the ticket.

Teambeer is the most knowledgeable FAU sports fan I know, way smarter than me.

If he had no talent at QB it was because that's what he recruited. That was his responsibility also. Listen, I have nothing against Shannon or Leach. If they end up filling our needs, I'll still support my team. However, they are by no means perfect choices. If they were, they'd be coaching somewhere. The more I think about it, the more I like Terry Bowden.

WRONG!!!  He ran off Marve in favor of Jacory.  He hired an inexperienced OC in Patrick Nix, fired him too late, brought in an experienced OC he didn't mesh with and didn't plan well.

If FAU hires Shannon, I will send my tickets right back.  People should really read up on Shannon not only the "feel good" story of him coming from the streets and all the time he spent in Miami, but also the stories that are coming out left and right from the LOCAL COACHES about he handled them during his 4 years at Miami.

Shannon failed because he was in over his head, is a linear thinker, doesn't plan well (the depth on that team is terrible in critical spots), can't evaluate talent (his '01-03 defenses are all Butch's recruits), can't develop talent.  HE IS A BAD FOOTBALL COACH!
