Those are some good points SigEp and although Shannon might not be the best choice, I probably wouldn't mind him since he does run a clean program and and he graduates kids- which our current coaches are having an issue with.
Terry Bowdin seems like a pretty solid choice, he's had success as a head coach and this would be a step up. However, who's to say he's not going to leave if he's successful once a big boy comes calling. If he'd leave North Alabama for us then he'd surely leave a us for a BCS school. Which is why I'm so in favor of hiring Leach. He has already been proven to produce winners at the TOP level of competition. If he leaves after 3 years then he's no different than any other no name coach who would leave after success here.
Another reason I like Leach is because he's loyal. He was loyal to Tech and let's not forget..he loves south Florida! I could see him sticking around here because he already lives relatively close.
So I think for now my top two choices are Leach and Bowden but I keep finding more reason why Leach would be better, not just for the team but for athletics overall and for filling the stadium.
I am not sure who the BEST choice is. I just know that Shannon wouldn't end up sinking our program. However, the more I think about it I would love Leach too, although I still think realistically its a long shot. I just really dont want a guy that leaves after 2 or 3 years. We need sustainability not a merry-go round at the head coaching position.
The only thing I know for sure is this is one of the biggest decisions our program has faced and ever will. With the timing of this with the stadium and conferene realignment we CANT afford to hire the wrong guy. I hope Angelos can handle this.

This is exactly my argument against those in favor of hiring an "up and coming" coach. That coach is going to leave just as soon as any big name coach would if another "bigger" school comes calling. Let's hire someone who has proven to be a winner at the TOP level of college football, runs a good program and will put butts in the seats because that will guarantee a solid 2-3 years with the new stadium instead of hoping This young assistant coach from Missouri (example) is going to build our program in 4-5 years..maybe.

i live in chicago now. watching the big ten week after week here is boring as hell, its slow pounding football, ever see a wisconsin game? boring as hell. i'm just using it as an example it would be exciting and get interest in our program, just like boise state did, by bringing an offense that put up major points every week.

My post in response to yours was in a light tone, I was just kidding around. Sorry it didn't come across that way.

Also, would still love to hear how the wonderful Urban Meyer went 7-5 last year with 4 of those games being easy wins vs non BCS schools. For all purposes UF was really 3-5 vs opponents that had a real chance at beating them. Which means he didn't outcoach anybody…he lost Tebow and suddenly was a bad football coach?
The more and more I read your posts I understand you lack of football knowledge. Are you kidding me Urban Meyer hasnt out coached anybody? Sorry but it's hard to win a national championship every year. Don't get me wrong Johnny Brantley isnt that great of a qb, but that's not why they lost all of those games. Every program has rebuilding years look at Texas last season, but don't say Meyer is a bad coach. The guy went into Bowling Green and won. Moved to Utah and built a football culture. Took over a Florida team and in his second season won a national championship without his 'system qb'. Open up your eyes buddy, Meyer is one of the greatest gameplanners, motivators and coach of this modern era.

"Former University of Miami coach Butch Davis, present at Friday’s scrimmage, dropped by FIU’s practice again Saturday."
Could Butch be doing some recon for FAU or soon be working with FIU???

Yeah, he would have had a lot of 7-5 seasons in front of him if he hadn't of left UF…which I believe is the real reason he did. You dont go 7-5 at UF if you are a great coach and game planner. But my argument was pal, that no matter how good a coach you are you cant win without a good to great QB, no matter if you are Urban Meyer, Randy Shannon, Mack Brown, etc. You have an argument for that one chief?

Ran out? Yeah, thats how you see it huh?
ROBERT MARVE -
for which he was suspended as the result of Marve's arrest in Coconut Grove when he was charged with two misdemeanors - resisting arrest without violence and criminal mischief - after he punched and broke a car mirror then tried to elude police by running away.
but Marve did not play in the bowl after being suspended for academic reasons on December 18, 2008
CANNON SMITH -
According to a court affidavit and Memphis police, officers were flagged down about 3:20 a.m. at Second and Beale where a Yellow Cab driver told them that Smith was refusing to pay his cab fare.
In the affidavit, officers reported that when they asked Smith about the situation, Smith began to remove his jacket and asked officers, "Do you want to fight?"
Told that he needed to put his jacket back on and pay the cab fare, Smith began cursing and threatening the officers, according to the court document. They reported that Smith, charged under the name Frederick Smith, had a strong odor of intoxicants on his breath, slurred speech and was very combative.
TAYLOR COOK-
Cook is from the tiny farming town of Eagle Lake, Texas.
“I’m just going back home to play some football,” Cook told The Miami Herald. “If I go to a Division I-AA school, I can play right away. If I go to another Division IA school, I have to sit out another two semesters.
