Now or Later?

Should FAU spend its money on half an on-campus stadium (15,000 seats) for 2010 or build the full size stadium (30,000 seats) for 2011?

Half-size (15,000 seats) now
full-size (30,000 seats) later
Lockhart for Life

You must select between 1 and 41 options

To those who say that we won't be able to get a BCS team to play us in a 15,000 seat stadium…we've how many BCS teams play us at home? I can think of 3 in the past 4 years. OK st. in 2005 and USF and Minn in 2007.

Sorry but OK ST and Minn was in Dolphin Stadium because they refused to play us in a 15k stadium.  We have only had 1, USF that was discussed above as to why.

Re: Now or Later?

Build it now……………the construction market is currently seeing prices that are 30% to 35% below pricing from last year on large municipal type projects. Now is the time to negotiate with a contractor and with the slowdown of construction activity there is a surplus of labor and a good supply of materials available which means the project schedule could be fast-tracked.

I've been in the market for 30 plus years and this is the greatest "bargain shopping" opportunity I have ever seen. If the powers that be let this opportunity pass them by we should take our red and blue shovels and smack them on the head.  ::)

I strongly believe that if the "powers at be" had the money to build the stadium, they would. It's not a matter of bargain shopping, it's a matter of finding someone to write the check so-to-speak.

Quotes from the AD; we will wait to go big:

“My fear is as hard as it is to raise money, that I wonder how long it would take for us to build it in segments. Would we be delayed and end up with a half-finished stadium for a number of years.”

“I see both sides of it, but worry we would be stuck with a half-finished stadium and lsoe the sense of urgency since we would have something there.”

“As long as Lockhart is there, we have time.”

"FAU is on a collision course with the national championship. The only variable is time."

I know they were at Dolphin, but it was still considered a "home" game, even if it wasn't at our usual home.

And the quote, "as long as Lockhart is there, we have time" is VERY scary to me. Why build a stadium at all if we know Lockhart is always going to be there!
