Owls' O-line impressive

From Herald Staff Reports

The Florida Atlantic offensive line enjoyed success on the fourth day of spring practice.

''A lot of young guys on the offense have a lot to learn, and they've been going against one basic defense, so that gives them the best chance to look good,'' coach Howard Schnellenberger said. ``They looked sharper than they did on Saturday. . . . We're starting to determine who the bulls are.''

Still, sophomore defensive lineman Josh Pinnick provided a challenge to the offensive line, shedding blockers and disrupting running plays.

''He's going to be a leader on the team,'' Schnellenberger said.

? During scrimmaged plays, sophomore Chad Wilkes had the best hands of the receivers, with several clutch grabs. Senior Danny Embick completed several good passes, including a post to senior wide receiver Darrion Porter-Isom over the outstretched arms of a linebacker.

? Junior wide receiver Casey McGahee struggled off the field after a rough landing on a deep incompletion but was fine running patterns later in the day. Offensive lineman Peter Pantelakos' injured foot is now classified as a high ankle sprain, and he might not make it back onto the field by the end of spring drills.

The Owls practice again at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Sounding like a broken record here but a few teams may be suprised this year if they take us lightly.
Granted the big 4 teams this year(UK,OSU,UL & Minn) would have given the guys trouble last year.
But our SunBelt schedule will be the true gauge for our young guns. 8-)

One of the Herald writers have a serious bone with FIU. We normally fly under the radar with them on some issues. Then they will print rehashed news from the Post or Sentinel.

;D The O-Line is definitely stepping up….Two Redshirt Freshmen are working with & rotating in with the First Unit. Both Nick Paris at 290 lbs & Zach Wichner at 285 lbs are looking very STRONG >:( and should contend for a starting job in the upcoming season. I think the O-Line will be a pleasant surprise and will be solid this upcoming year despite their inexperience.

what about the big freshman enrolling in the fall? i heard he could be instant contributor? any rumors to him? I guess he wouldn't have the practices under his belt to start right away.

The Big Fella? If he comes in the summer and works with the team he may get his reps this fall. They say he's a quick study.

Let's not forget the D-line, some of these guys are being put in a tough assignment from the get go, the
3-4 D is not the easiest to master, our LB our also young, however the speed is definetely there.

I look forward seeing these guys in action at the spring game at the end of the month.

Go Owls!!
