Just curious because the super up tempo combined with the 4th qtr program is what I think really won us a lot of the games last year. That pace for a full 4 qtrs can equal the playing field against more talented teams and will demoralize most defenses.
Defensively ive been trying to figure out why we hired this guy since the day we hired him. His D at usm was nothing special and got blasted by unt and a terrible fsu. Like I said before and like 300 said, first thought that came to my head was oh great another Bellontoni over complicated D. I'm hoping Kiffen has the balls to tell him to simplify/tone down the scheme hes trying to make a name for himself with. I mean come on, this is most likely the most talented D we have ever had and to come out looking like that was beyond ridiculous.

So are we ditching the Briles/Baylor super up tempo pace on offense this year?? Just wondering if it's going to be a Kiffin/Weis trying to outsmart everyone spread offense, or are we still working back up to that pace, or were we doing anything possible to just slow down the game to give the D a rest against OU. I didn't get to any of the scrimmages this year so the ou game was the first I've seen the offense this year.

The offense is very much the same to go fast you need to get first downs and not have penalties something we did not do.
As for the D they started slow last year as well. OU has 3 legit Hesiman players on offense 2 All Americans on the OL. They blew us off the ball.
Please listen to the Podcast this week I will go into much greater X and O detail from what I saw.
You guys need to chill. This is why I tell you stars matter.
OU is 30 point favorites over UCLA this week. In 60 weeks we OU is averaging 48.9 a game we will shrug our shoulders.

And outside of a few folks on the board talking about the complexity of the scheme, what makes you guys think it’s a more complex d?
All I’ve seen officially about it is that it’s aggressive and heavy blitz, but nothing about disgusting coverages and checks and all that. Where did that idea come from?
Just curious, I wasn’t pleased with our performance either, but I’m reserving comments on scheme until I see us play a normal team.
Tackling on the other hand…

I understand "going fast" in our offense to mean getting tackled, giving the ball back to the referee (so they don't have to chase it down), running back to the line of scrimmage, going no huddle, and getting the ball snapped quickly. We usally left a lot of time on the play clock, which is rarely done.
This concept gets you the first downs because you're not allowing the defense to substitute, barely allowing them to read the formation and get the correct coverage called, and not allowing them to catch their breath.
Coupled with the fourth quarter training, our well conditioned offense would surpass the gassed defense.
Penalities don't allow this to happen, so agreed - they throw off our advantage.

Talented freshmen give No. 7 Oklahoma new look on defense
As has been said, the best teasm simply reload, losses to the NFL QUICKLY filled. THAT is was 4 and 5 star recruits do for you, more physical gifts and shorter "learning" curve.
