Of course.... FAU stadium deal delayed

Yeah, let's go find new people that are dedicated and willing to work hard for low pay.  Let's set the program back another 5 years.  Let's all sit around and do nothing for our university but expect to have a stadium built when we have no fan base.  Let's have the lowest alumni donation participation and demand a better program.  Let's all do nothing but talk about how loyal we are to the program and figure out how we can short change the program by protesting about fees.  Let's all donate $500 and see if we can eat and drink $600 worth of the free food and drinks provided.  Let's see if we can get into sporting events with our old student IDs so we don't have to pay.

Let's do it.  Go Owls!!
Well the school should not continue to promise us a stadium if it is not something they can deliver, either way I still think we will get a stadium in 2011

Really REALLY well said!

We should have a rule, if you havent donated a min of $100 to (specifically) the staduim fund THIS YEAR then youre no longer able to complain. There is no use sitting around hoping youve got a rich uncle somewhere thats going to make you rich when he dies, go out and make it happen yourself!

Re: Of course.... FAU stadium deal delayed

what's stipid is you could've borrowed money from 2002 to 2007 for commercial real estate for 1%. they never moved on it. they wait till the last minute all the time. they aren't reinventing the wheel here. its taken 3 presidents and all they have are bank proposals. i think its pathetic.

The reason there is no alumni giving is because up until a few years ago there was no campus life, you went to class there and then got out of there. Why would anyone donate to that? If they had built more dorms and frat housesten years ago, they would all be filled and the university would be in a better position. i don't like the way its run, constantly coming from behind to make up ground.

I can relate to the frustrations, I have them as well…but regardless of how cheap money is or was, you have to have a mechanism in place to show that you can pay the money back.  That's why they said things years ago about building the stadium…you have to see who is going to step in and make a difference, and not enough people did that.

You cannot in any business venture borrow that kind of money when you see that no one is donating and virtually no one is showing up at the sporting events.  There was no seriuos demand for a stadium in 2002 other than a few die hard fans.  That makes it very difficult to justify a $74M stadium when the ability to pay for it has not been clearly identified.

Re: Of course.... FAU stadium deal delayed

I think it all goes back to having this grand idea of a dome that was not realistic. Had the program gone into this thing thinking about a 20,000 seat outdoor stadium from the beginning, I think it would have been done years ago. From day one I was against a dome because it wasn't feasible. University officials bought into the dome idea and looked ahead with unrealistic aspirations when they should have focused on the reality of FAU as an institution and a football program and built a stadium that matched that reality. As a consequence of waiting they are now faced with the fact that an open-air stadium is the only feasible option and at the same time they are faced with generating funding and support in an economic climate that is far less favorable than it was from 2002-2007. The blame needs to spread far and wide for this one and I think that most of us are frustrated because of the empty promises.

Most of all I feel for the players that have come and gone with each new year and the continued lame ass promise of a stadium. FAU is playing a serious case of bait and switch on these young men and it won't be long before recruits start talking (if the haven't already) about the unmet promises associated with the FAU program.

GO OWLS!!!

Re: Of course.... FAU stadium deal delayed

With this latest stadium delay, what worries me is if they have figured out that with the SEVERE useage restrictions Boca forced the school to accept, there may not be enough event dates available to pay the stadium debt! Unless the ticket and parking and food and…..prices are so rediculous and then nobody will come due to that.

I hope we have not painted ourselves into an untenable corner!
