I think special teams will be a big factor. Last night I think Troy scored 21 points off of MTSU special teams mishaps. There 2 muffed punts/kicks that were recovered by Troy and then there was a blocked punt.

At that point it seems like MTSU gave up. Their offense can't match Troys and their Defense was just a disaster. If we can hold onto the ball, cut down on the mistakes I like our chances. Sometimes Howard or Nord whoever calls the offensive plays and uses trickery like the flea flicker against UK or the reverse against UF which got us a first down. I wouldn't mind if we did something like that again.

It seems like most of if not all QB's in the sun belt are running QB's as well. Troy may not be used to someone like Rusty who has a cannon for an arm and sits in the pocket.

Well just hope we can come out and show Troy hey WE CAN put away a school even if it is FIU it is important we go out there and just destroy them

This thread disturbs me!

We can not compare this FAU team Vs. last year!  Rusty Smith has grown into one of the best quarterbacks in the NCAA's.  Our defense has grown, our running game has grown & our coaching has grown!  Our +/- ratio on turnovers is outstanding!

On paper means nothing!  We will win the next two games!  I have the utmost confidence in our TEAM and we will reach our goals!!!

Stats, sch-mats…

Let's play the game and let the players decide who wins!

BUT, on a side note:

We scored 14 point against Troy in 2005 - with a pretty BAD (emphasis on BAD) offense…sure they are a better team overall now as well, but:

Today:

Our offense is pretty GOOD…especially if we play at our ability - with no turnovers.

Keys to the game:

Play agressive D - just like we did versus South Florida…yep, watched it again last night…we did play pretty good D for the most part…

Is Troy better than USF on offense?

Draw.

Bottom line:

We have a legit chance to win…and with our best effort, we can not only win, but win respectably - ie, not some emotional ending like Troy vs MTSU last year…or half of our games this year…

Its time to step up and take command…enough of this wishy wash play…

Just a side note:

The game in 2005 at Troy we were winning at halftime (I remember b/c my father and his friends in the Troy stadium club were not happy with me jumping up and down cheering…LOL) and then in the 3rd quarter our quarterback (Embick?) was injured and out for the rests of the season.

Troy did look tough last night, but they were playing an inconsistent MTSU.  I said it in another thread, the two quarterback system is entertaining to watch, but it is very hard for a team to find any consistency or rhythm when playing in a constantly changing environment.  Troy is a good team, we all know that, we all know that they have pretty much ran the SBC table the last few years.  With that said, both our team's games against the gators were pretty similar scorewise, so I think that may give us a benchmark to measure by.  We will have to play a game like we did with USF to have a chance at beating them.  It looks like we have worked out our kicking issues, or atleast reduced them.  I don't like to guess scores, but I think it's going to come down to us playing our "A" game and giving them a nail biter to the clock stops, or we lose our heads and get blown out.  It depends on which team plays next week.  I also wonder about the weather factor, we don't need cold going against us too.

Troy is very good.  No question about it, but let's not go handing them the conference title just yet.  MTSU did some really dumb things last night, especially in the 1st half when the game was still in reach.  The switching out of QB's really killed their momentum on some early drives.  I think Craddock was 11-11 at one point and they were driving, but they put in the other QB and the drive stalled.  Then they had a punt blocked and their returner made a bad play trying to pick up a bouncing punt.  They gave Troy the ball twice inside the 15 yard line and the game was basically over.

We'll give them a good game.  Yes, they have been shutting down SBC schools and we haven't, but they also haven't faced an offense like ours yet in conference play.  Just about every team in the Belt runs the spread offense, and clearly they have figured out how to shut that down.  We handled a very good defense in USF, and put up points against UF, and moved the ball pretty good against UK as well.  Stopping their offense will be the key.  Last year's game at Lockhart was very close.  We were done in by 3 long pass plays.  I think it'll be an excellent football game.

But let's get past FIU before worrying about Troy.  GO OWLS!!!

Nobody is handing Troy the title. All I am saying is they were very impressive against MTSU.

Ok, just to remind everyone this is FAU and it doesnt matter who we play each and every week.  In my eyes the owls are going to keep fighting until everything is left on the field.  With that said, take a look at troys last two games.  Just the other day Mid-Tenn, was a team whom was not willing to fight and instead dropped the ball with Troy.  A week before that it was Western Kentucky! A team with nothing to lose but willing to scratch and fight throughout the entire game with Troy.  Instead of a 45-7 win it was a 21-17 game.

All i am trying to say is that this is FAU's first season which it has the opportunity to clench the title and i doubt they will let Troy get by as easily as some seem to think.  Regardless of stats or anything on paper i stand by my FAU Owls!!!
