Re: Owl DB Cortez Ash Charged in Copper Wire Theft
Stealing is stealing, no matter if it's copper wire, a laptop or rims from a car. How would you feel if you came home from work one day and found that someone had stolen your air conditioner. If your head coach is smart, he will kick him off the team and make an example for the other players on the team. If this guy was on UCF, Oleary would not hesitate to have him kicked off.proudowl said
Omg, we are talking about copper wire theft people! Not rape, not assault, not stealing a laptop, not selling your services for $175,000 dollars—- bloody friggin' copper wire theft.
Dumb move on the kid's part I grant you, and the charges will probably get reduced if there is a plea bargain.

And its not like were talking a handful of copper wires from someones garage…this is like one of those big spools off the back of an FPL truck, worth much more than a measly laptop.

Its a commodity and in high demand, copper prices have been going up for a while. I just read an article where they arrested a business owner for improper record-keeping. Doesn't $1260 buy you a pretty good laptop. What if it was $1260 in gold its still a commodity and it's still theft.

It sucks to lose Ash to such a bone-head move, but I think Coach needs to make an example out of him and kick him off the team indefinately!

Completely agree w/OwlAmerica! If you do the crime, you gots to do the time; and the time is kicked off the team foreverrrrrrrrrrr!

Look, if you ran a business or had a construction site with a razor thin budget theft like this would be a huge deal to you. Luckily Ash caught himself because so many times the offenders go unpunished. I remember when when my Dad's company car was stolen right out of our driveway in comfy suburban Maryland. It wasn't even my car but the feeling of being violated and anger towards the scumbags who did it is a very helpless one. Thankfully, that individual is in prison now.

I realize the value of copper wire, I really do. I wish I had a ton of it in my back yard— especially in this economy. I just don't see the heinous nature of the crime compared to other criminal acts we have seen other players engage in. Should he be off the team? Other players D-1 level have done worse, and rejoined their team. It will be interesting to see what happens with the charges.
Not at FAU.
He committed Grand Theft, and he is a moron on top of it.
He's gone, period.
GO OWLS!
