UCF better hope they dont face us in New Orleans or we will have to dig up all the crap they talked about that bowl game.  Not to mention that we will gladly extend their never-won-a-bowl streak

Don't worry, we'll be a good team and won't be stuck in a bottom-tier CUSA bowl like that.

We'd both need to have disappointing seasons to end up in New Orleans…

Haha, what?  You would be dissapointed to win our conference?

Re: Palm Beach Post on Conference USA

Like many new conferences, C-USA was "cobbled" together primarily from schools that had not been around early enough to get into BCS conferences. Several of our members WERE taken in the last conference shake-up. Louisville, Cinncy and USF were the FB schools taken by the Big East to replace schools taken by the ACC. The Sun Belt was formed in a similar way.

Keep in mind that the older (BCS) conferences were formed around train travel–how far could a team reasonably go for a game in one day on a train. Until the late 30s paved roads were few and often didn't go very far. Airplanes only became a significant means of team travel after the 1950s. By that time virtually all the older conferences were set with the only major change being the SWC (9 in TX +ARK) dissolving into the Big-12 (Ark to the SEC) and the leftovers joining minor groups and several independents forming the Big East.

Another factor in the new leagues is the growth of urban universities to significant size combined with the growth of football as a national pastime sport. The number of BCS schools located within major urban cities can be counted on one hand. The NFL, until very recent times (1960s), avoided conflict with college football by playing in large cities where college competition was minimal.(Los Angeles is the main exception that comes to mind, and they no longer have a team)
