Maybe if they can alumni association leverage with athletics to provide a space (actual space for vehicles and typical tailgating fare) for alumni association tailgating section next to the Forkas house (have to be a up to date paying member of the alumni association) and get the scene going. Being in close vicinity to the building might cause alums to go in and check it out especially if its has HD screens with other games playing at the time. Make it enticing and allow tailgating in that area for longer period than the rest of public this could get people to join the Alumni association. Once you get enough core people tailgating there it might bring in more people.

Interesting thought about the tailgating area, I will run that up the line.  I think the challenge is breaking up groups that tailgate together that are NOT FAUNAA members.  Some thought definitely needs to go into that.  We do broadcast games during the entire event at the Alumni Center, each classroom is equipped with a projector to do this.

Food will be free this year and there is an option to purchase beer with free refills, more to come on that.

We are working on an idea where someone speaks to all in attendance about the Owls game plan for that game, team information, goals for the game etc.  How would you all feel about coming and listening to someone close to the team, not a coach or staff member, talk to something like this?

I wrote up this whole thing and then it disappeared because the site auto-logged me out. Fortunately, you hit on some of the main ideas.

1) As mentioned by boozie, allow early tailgates in Lot 7 (next to the Forkas Center). If kickoff is at 4pm, start the party at 8 am so people get in a full 8 hours before the game. I don't think you need to "break up" tailgating groups of members with non-members because that's likely the majority. As long as at least one person is an FAU NAA member, they should be able to park there while space is available.

2) Reduce the price of food, which you did. Food and beer should be separate, as you already hit upon.

3) I actually really like the speaker idea! What I'd like to see is "ESPN Gameday"-style banter with two (local? retired?) football coaches discussing the teams and how each can win or lose the game. It should be well-researched and entertaining, just like Gameday. Build a legitimate "Gameday"-style desk setup (that's key) themed to FAU and allow Alumni members to ask questions at the end. If you can pull that off, if you can in essence "bring Gameday to FAU" for every home game, that would be phenomenal.

4) SGA often prints up game-specific shirts, whether BEAT ______ or otherwise, and distributes them to students only. Alumni sometimes see these shirts and want them too, so consider replicating the design and selling them at the Alumni Center for $5-10.

5) Some people here may not appreciate this but it's always gone over well where I've seen it: Hold contests like FAU football trivia or crosswords. Each tailgate can pick up the sheet and take it back so they fill it out as a team. First tailgate team to return it wins something like a chocolate football, free shirts from #4, upgrades on their seats for the next game (if available) or maybe an FAU tailgating tent.

Some really great ideas in there and I will most certainly bring them back.  The Game Day idea is interesting and maybe we can work up to that as the crowds increase.

The one thing I failed to mention in response to boozie, the timing of allowing people in to tailgate in the parking lots is controlled by the University and most likely costs.  They will not allow earlier tailgating for safety reasons, don't want people drinking all day, and also they need to pay the police and parking attendants those additional hours, I don't think that is fiscally responsible when we just got hit with a $25MM budget reduction.

Keep the ideas coming!  I looked to all of you first as you are the TRUE BLUE FAU Faithful that makes the game day experience and we need to get more of you out!

Use the link noted below in screen cap 1, and then set the time limit you want in cap 2.

I would recommend "always stay logged in". When you close your browser, you are not online, but you will not experience an auto log out:

Thank you Rick. Before the most recent site upgrade, I was always logged in. Since the upgrade, and despite the fact that I allow cookies from this site on Firefox, it only allows me to login for 60 minutes if I login in the upper right hand corner. If I go to "Login" and click "Always stay logged in", it logs me out when I close out the window. I've been putting in "9999" for "minutes to stay logged in" which should keep me in for a week… and again I have to login every time I get to the site.

I guess it's a problem with Firefox/my security settings…

Yep, definitely appears to be a security setting then...Ill ask Francois to take a peak and see if he has some feedback that may help.

Yup.

I checked it out before one of the games once, and I thought the Chemistry Club was having a meeting so I left.

Re: Party fOwl

Somehow and someway there should be a great atmosphere from the alumni party as the team walks past the owlsley statue.  Not sure what it is but I think would be a cool scene and experience for both fans and players.  Other school just line people up and seems pretty boring think this would be another aspect to build on
