Re: Pat Chun's Student Challange...
And I know I sound like a broken record, but let the students go into the east stands when the game is not looking to be crowded. It looks so much better on TV and gets so much louder.
What happened to the promised upgrade in game marketing? I heard and saw nothing of that kind and I am a serious media consumer. All I saw was this shirt give-away a few days before the game and to students who don't really pay to get in,
anyway.
How about marketing to the unaffiliated or little-affiliated residents of Palm Beach County, including youth leagues, clubs, scouts, high schools,. etc.? Give the tickets away, even, or let the entities sell them as fund-raisers. Thousands more people, buying food and drink is better than empty seats.
Another idea: Form a committee of people knowledgeable about about the sports programs and have them call regularly and initiate conversations about that week's game on radio stations, including ESPN 760 AM, 790/104.3 The Ticket (which is now heard all over SoFla on FM), WZZR (Love Doctors, Penthouse and Locker Room) on 94.3. It could be loosely scripted. These stations want callers. If enough people call and talk FAU, the school gets minutes and hours of free airtime.

Kudos to the students who showed up Saturday, but the large majority of them let down their school. What in the hell could be so important on an overcast Saturday afternoon that they couldn't spend a couple of hours having fun in the school's beautiful, brand new stadium (win or lose), for free, including a nice T-shirt?

You make some good points and suggestions. The bottom line is this team has to start winning as people don't want to associate themselves with a loser regardless how much marketing and advertising is done.

+1 BMarkey. Except for the commercial i saw on TV, the only advertising I notice is on the radio and the road. For the students, it was pretty bad that most failed to show up. I understand there was a Brad paisley concert with the band perry opening for them at the Cruzan, but that is not excuse. As for your suggestion, sign me up I can do it on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings. lolBMarkey said

Re: Pat Chun's Student Challange...
One significant reason FAU isn't drawing more people to its home games (the Friday night scheduling is a huge mistake) is due to the lack of coverage its "hometown" daily newspaper provides. The Palm Beach Post's leadership should be ashamed of itself for giving FAU games and the program the same if not less ink than wire service write-ups on out-of-state programs. The Post falls all over itself to cover the older, more established programs in the state (when plenty of coverage of those programs is available via partners and wire services), instead of wisely showing more support for its community program and helping to enable it to grow into a major winner. This week's game included only a basic story - buried on an inner sports page, with no sidebars, fact boxes, notes and comments, and one photo. Some weeks, the Post doesn't bother to show up at all and instead picks up Sun-Sentinel coverage. That's a disgrace. The Fort Lauderdale-based newspaper does a better job at covering FAU than the locally-based Post. Even when FAU was winning games and bowls, the Post did its best to ignore coverage, and when stories were written, they frequently had a negative angle (like this one).
Can someone repair the spelling of "challenge" in this thread's title?

I hope they take it to heart but Marcus Nelson seemed to be the only person at the PBP that ever gave a d@mn about FAU.

Yup! exactly. I'm sure Tom is a nice guy and all but clearly he's bitter about not covering FSU anymore. I refuse to read the post until an apology is issued to Corey Henry. I won't click on any of their links and I won't read their articles.
It's really sad we get more coverage from a newspaper that's not even in our county
My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!
