Charlie Partridge (and his red shorts) were focused Thursday. Partridge said the priority now is to get better in practice, then turning preparations towards Nebraska and Alabama.

The Owls were in just shorts and helmets. They also had on new cleats according to DíJoun Smith. But the limited protection didnít stop things from getting physical. The young group of tight ends worked on blocking for at least two periods. Dustin Bowens is on the left, and a skinny Nate Terry is on the right.

Lucky Whitehead looked like the player everyone thought he would be coming out of junior college. He spun out of this tackle above (apologize for the distance, had just one lens today) and got extra yardage. Heís finally healthy, and it showed.

DJ Juste did a little bit of everything. Heís wearing one glove because he was throwing passes earlier in the day. Heís FAUís version of Trey Burton.

Iím going to keep writing about Marquees Dudley-Gordon until someone tells me to stop. Partridge said this of MDGís development: ď[Itís] going to be really critical, because we play so many spread teams, so you can see us in whatever you want to call it, a 4-2-5 or nickel package. That nickel position becomes very important to us.Ē

When the Owls arenít in a nickel, they will be playing either Robert Relf or Freedom Whitfield at linebacker. Relf saw first-team action on Thursday, because Whitfield had class. The true sophomore is athletic and looks fully recovered from an ankle surgery that caused him to miss much of last season.

DC Roc Bellantoni might have the tallest task on hand. He has to find depth at linebacker, and that means working with walk-ons and guys like Jarvis Giles, who switched positions.

Redshirt-freshman Robert Miller has moved from safety to linebacker. He worked with the second-team at outside backer.

Partridge was recruiting Siffo Pierre when he was an assistant at Arkansas. Pierre is listed at 325 pounds, but can move. I think his nickname is ďC-4Ē  - which is simply awesome given his stature - so letís roll with it.

There arenít many position battles going on in camp, but this is certainly one. Mike Marsaille (left) is trying to dethrone freshman Reginald Bain (right) at left tackle.
