I think a great positive for me is the fact that its very clear that fau needs a new coaching staff. The failure to adjust to what UF was doing  ie the flare pass speaks volumes. The offensive play calls were vanilla at best. Very predictable. With Howard retiring maybe they will make the necessary changes that need to happen to move this program forward. Shannon would be a excellent fit. He is a great recruiter of the area and with UM getting ready to get hammered by the NCAA,  he surely will get several of those players who want to stay close to home. The defense will be better than what it showed especially if the O can stay on the field a little longer. I think the qb issue has been resolved as well and the TE looks good. So lets see how they fair against a bigger but slower team saturday in MSU??

Ok, I'm already looking at next Saturday's game…the Mich State allowed Youngstown State to gain 254 yards on offense, 128 of those on the ground. Some hope for our offense?

of course the offense was vanilla, we have an unexperienced QB, green WR and an o-line that still cant block for our HB, you have to keep it simple.

Defense looked great.  To have an Offense only compile 100 total yards and us play that well is incredible…SunBelt teams will have a VERY tough time if we stay healthy on that side of the ball.

Man o Man, how can our QB's be that bad?  They have had ample time to develop in the system and look like they have no clue what the hell is going on.  WR's look like 2nd teamers.  But it is against UF.

We need to target our TE's downfield more.  Problem is that we couldn't run against UF so we couldn't open the field up.  Hopefully we can get the running game going vs conference and have some more options.

I agree, these qb's have been around long enough to know tne system. And regardless of the personel you have on the field, you have to be able to do the things that you practice, at least attempt to. I thought going into the season that the o-line would be a strong suit. I was mistaken. They looked horrible. I'm not folding the tent yet but I took nothing away from the game to be excited about…. I keep reading these messages about lets see how we do when we get to the SBC. I'm thinking they need to win one of the first three. To have a legitimate chance at going bowling in december.

Granted, we knew this was going to be a tough game; however every time we get momentum against these good teams we can't put together a productive game plan or drive???  The posters that bring up the fact that our coaching staff is "lacking" is very accurate.  The problem I have is that UF was throwing the ball to the outside the entire 1st half and we did nothing to defend UF or change our approach.  In fact, our DB's were playing 15 yards back off of their wide receivers and the under was there all day long.  Sorry FAU fans, that's embarrassing!!!!

My beef is not with Howard (and has never been with Howard), it is how Howard kept some of the same coaching staff around after two sub par years ???  Let's face it–this is going to be a LONG PAINFUL YEAR with some positives!

As far as positives: Turnovers +++, discipline, punting, fans, staying healthy, the future looks bright and we have a new stadium this year.

Not gonna win one of the three big OOC games AT their fireld, not gonna happer, even when our team was pretty good for our level. Same end result the next two is hoped for by me, get the cash as stay failry healthy for the Belt games, then show what you can do. Being vanilla is also a way of not showing our Belt opponents much new either, giving them little to prepare for. Right now, still hope for the best guys it is only one game (vs. an SEC powerhouse program at that!).

As I watched the game from the stands, there were several aspects of it that I liked.

Defense - I thought they did a great job against UF, especially the turnovers.  I think the D will do great in conference play.

Wilbert -  I wasn't sure what too expect out of him, but I thought he also did a great job.  Considering that he had no one blocking for him and had to spend the game running for his life, he didn't make too many bad decisions, and had some nice passes.  I would like to see him remain as starter, and maybe Bracewell as #2, no Kooi for me.

Punting - Groody is still strong.

Morris - granted our running game was pretty well stifled, but the guy has heart and he kept trying to run right through the Gators line.  I didn't work, but I liked the effort.

Keeping the players in the game - I liked keeping our guys in for the experience instead of our typical pull after the half.

There was also a lot of bad things I saw, but thats not for this thread and those are all pretty obvious anyway.  After watching the game my genereal impression is that if we can stay healthy, I have "increased" confidence that we can do well in conference play.
