I have mixed feelings about who we play.

Don't we garner more scholarship money by playing the big schools away? On the other hand I like the idea of playing a UAB, Tulane, Memphis, East Carolina etc- who doesn't love a good road trip?

It is a good road trip and it also provides FAU with a chance to win. I am not against keeping one or two big name teams on the schedule, but lets not continue with four top 25 caliber teams while also traveling half way across the country.

There is no reason we should be playing at Texas. We could probably schedule an SEC, ACC, or Big East team that would be more than happy to pay FAU to play.

Enough is enough. We should have two teams that are top tier and within our geographical region and two or three other games that are winnable.

Maybe its just a numbers thing, there are probably scheduling obligations with those schools that prevent that from happening.

I got to watch the Oregon-Michigan game and at the end the announcers stated at least Michigan had not played any Big 10 games yet, so they could theoretically get to the Rose Bowl. Our big prize is still a trip to New Orleans and our first ever bowl, so we are still on target for that.
One other observation from that game was how much fun it was to watch the Oregon offense. You think with all the small speedy guys we have on our team and in the south florida area it would be a great fit for FAU to run the spread offense. Seems to work good for Utah (first non-BCS school in the BCS), Florida, Appalachian State, and Oregon. Just some thoughts.

Yes, I think the FAU offense could use a change. It isn't high powered and it seems way too predictable. It might work in the SBC, but it doesn't very well against better competition.

This is defenitely Old School offense - the spread seems to be the popular choice these days - it's time will come for FAU. We do use a variety of sets that spreads out the D of occasions.

I think that we could have hrown down field a few times to keep the defense honest - even if you don't complete the pass.

Its Monday morning. I'm looking at internet articles about FAU football. Seems to be some criticism and some disappointments. I welcome the criticism and reading the disappointments confirms the fact that Owls football is starting to become popular down there. Ted Hutton seems extremely disappointed in his articles following the game and he was quite critical. I think Ted has become a loyal Owl fan and to see his team lose, hurts. In any college town, the local news papers are going to criticize the team if it doesn't play up to expectations. We are seeing that this year. Expectations in the past were minimal due to a new unheard of team and the team was young and inexperienced. No one had any high expectations up till now. This is the first year we had expectations of winning or at least PLAYING GOOD. Most of the criticism wasn't that FAU lost. It was they didn't play well. They looked as though there was no improvement over last years OSU game.

Just curious though, that was a LOOOOONG time out during the play review of the interception. You don't suppose 'Ole Boone Pickens made a call and told those refs how to call the play? I thought the play wasn't over until the feet, or in college, foot hit the ground. The way grayowl saw it, Small had taken the ball away while they were still up in the air. Small had it in his hands when his feet hit the ground. That the way I interpret grayowl's explaination. Hopefully there will be review of that whole thing since it should not have been shown in the stadium as per Big 12 rules.

Frantz Joseph is a bonified D1A caliber player having transfered from Boston College and is playing like it. He will be even more of a beast next year as a senior.

I agree Illi I think Ted has really come to embrace the Owls and I really enjoy his comments good or bad. It would bother me when he wrote something negative but I guess its kind of like he is part of the family.

I guess you can call me old school in the fact that I would rather my sports writers be objective and not overtly support the home team. After all, Hutton does get paid to write about FAU.

GO OWLS!!!

the pro set is by far the best type of offense to run…how many spread offenses do you see in the NFL? Option oriented offenses?? ZERO.

the problem:

you almost need to be a pro to make it work at every position…

i agree…we are trying to do things in these sets that we are simply not capable of at this stage of development…

ie:

continually try to punch it in against a much bigger d-line on the goal line…

we dont have a true jumbo set - with two traditional TE's 6-5 and 235lbs a piece…in fact, we dont have a traditional TE at present…

that is a mainstay of the pro set…

in the SBC, it will suffice at times…but the talent level is not supportive to truly make it succesful all around at present…

i liked what they were doing in practice with the trcik plays, and mis directions, etc…

what happend to that??

anyone watch Oregon versus Michigan? How about Boise State versus Oklahoma last year?
