Postgame thoughts on the Minnesota game...

I am sorry fauowls44 but you sound like our coaches and players .. "oh well" ?!?!

That attitude will never get us to the next level.

I'm not saying "oh well" and I don't think that our coaching staff has either.  I'm not saying there aren't problems, because there definately are.  I'm just saying it's too early to write off the season because of this loss.  I'm going to give it until conference play before calling for mass changes.

We are in basically the same position as last season.  Have you forgotten about UF, Kentucky, and OK State from last season?  Let's not jump ship just yet.  Things will look better once we play teams of equal talent.

I only have one thing to say to this:

How many points have we scored in the three OOC games that mattered?

Answer:

13 STINKING TOTAL POINTS in three games.

I wont spoil it for you, but please look at last years offensive totals for the OOC games you reference, and compare to the above 13 point performance:

2007 Results

We have digressed 44…you have to be objective and call it what it is…im a glass half full guy, you know that, but this is plain digression - period.

Re: Postgame thoughts on the Minnesota game...

I hear you, but the OOC losses are what they are.  Yeah, we scored more points last year against BCS teams, but it wasn't as if those games were particularly close.  This year:  Texas…whatever, they are Texas.  MSU was played in a downpour, so i'm giving them a pass on that one and it was still the closest BCS road game we have played.  The only bad one was today. And it was BAD, but i'm not going to put too much on one OOC game.

Listen, I'm not saying that there aren't problems that must be corrected.  There are.  I just don't agree with people wanting to change coaches or make wholesale changes before we have played a game in our conference.  If we play as poorly against the SBC, I will be right there with you.  But I don't think you can go too nuts after a few road losses against BCS teams…two of which, I at least, didn't expect to win.

I know that we are all frustrated right now, but there is still a full conference schedule left to play.  That is our true season and i'm going to give it a conference game or two before jumping off my roof.

Be that as it may, if we aspire to be anything more than a Sun Belt school, we need to look past the conference schedule.  The other games matter.  We play 12, not 8.  This isn't spring training.

On ESPN Gameday this morning, they were talking about the Michigan State/Notre Dame game, while referencing Ringer's 282 yards last week.  I think it was Herbstreit who said, "I know it was just FAU, but…"

How long are you going to be happy being "just FAU"?

Re: Postgame thoughts on the Minnesota game...

Here's my thoughts.. In the three losses we have had so far we have gotten the ball first every time. We move down the field and then some how or another we turn the ball over. Texas - Fumble, MSU - Fumble, Minnesota- INT….. Maybe we should elect to kick next time. Maybe it is time to blame the coaching staff. Polo intercepts a ball in the end zone or the score would have been worse and you still don't see him out there playing DBack. I don't know why he's not starting and unless it's injury, I don't care. If you want to win games you need the best players on the field at all times and he is one of the bright spots on D.

Maybe Rusty thinks about it to much when they manage to screw up the first drive for a change, I don't know what the problem is. As for the WR's.. Will someone PLEASE CATCH THE #&@% BALL!!!!!!!!!!!! Bonner WIDE OPEN in the end zone.. drops it. I'd have them on that field practicing catching until they feel like they're fingers are going to fall off. How do you expect to beat anyone even St. Marys school for the blind if you can't catch the damn ball! Nothing pisses me off more then WR's dropping easy catches, do we have to go back to pee wee leagues where you learn how to catch the ball!

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Re: Postgame thoughts on the Minnesota game...

Im pretty much in agreement with what others have said.  I'll keep faith in our guys no matter what ends up happening this year but we need to get off the blue kool aid, we are not a good football team whatsoever right now.  Yeah we have potential and tallent but something just isnt right with this team.  Hopefully something will light a spark under our guys before conference games begin if not then we will definitely be finishing middle of the pack or bottom of the sunbelt this year.  At this point i cant even be confident about a win against FIU.  I mean Damn, we just got smacked around today by a team that in the grand scheme of college football is not a very good team.  Somethings gotta change and it needs to be soon.  Theres just too much tallent on this team being wasted right now.

Re: Postgame thoughts on the Minnesota game...

Ringer had over 200 yards against ND.  Busted for a 62 yarder to seal the game for the Spartans.

Look, I am just as frustrated as most people here, but most of these mistakes are correctable.  I think the players as pushing too hard and have lost a little focus with some of the pre-season hype.

I was expecting much more consistency & production from our offense - hasn't happen yet.

We fought hard in every game last year to get into the position that we earned a conference championship & Bowl game.  We are going to have to do the same this year.  The players will have to learn that they need to earn every yard, every point and every victory and will have to work even harder then last year to reach their goal of a repeat trip to a bowl game.

And guys it's still within reach.  We have yet to lose a conference game.

It is frustrating not seeing these guys play to their potential, but I think these guys are just as upset about their performance as the fans.  You don't kick them when they are down, you help them up & give them encouragement.

With all the talent on this team, all it takes is one thing to spark this team to start playing the way they are capable.  There is a fine line between the mistakes being made to great plays that lead to W's.

Re: Postgame thoughts on the Minnesota game...

We better be worried about MTSU - they are playing very good DEFENSE and with the play of Craddock they have enough to make some noise in the belt.

Our players will have to match the intensity of the Raiders, something they have yet done this season.
