Power of the Band!

Re: Power of the Band!

Power of the Band!

You are allowed to play when the other band is playing.

1. On away games, the band is not tied into the same restrictions as the home team on when they can and cannot play

Garbage! You can do whatever you want, but what you do can reflect poorly on your group and your school.

Visiting bands are even more restricted in some cases as to when they can play. There are always special presentations, dance team performances, the other team's planned songs, special announcements, etc., going on to which you and your band were evidently oblivious. You all just played and played (like the FAMUs and Ala. States) with no regard for anyone else or the home team's plans.

I know this because I have asked why some visiting bands do not play much and have been told they are highly restricted. The Troy band was not even allowed to play while it marched into Florida Field before the pre-game, and was limited to a few songs during the game because of announcements and other plans. The halftime show was cut to two songs. The typical post-game concert was nixed.

You all just ignored the rules and blasted away. You ignored the home side of the field during your show, which is something I have not seen a band do in a long time. You all sounded good and were very entertaining. But you apparently just forgot you were in someone else's living room. Maybe some band that visits RJS will treat you the same way some time and you'll understand.

Why do you talk smack about an opposing band? Personally, I liked your band. You guys had a great half-time show and were pretty good for your size.

its kind of cool seeing the bands get mentioned on the board, lol.

You guys deserve it! You put your heart and soul into every game and I know from reading it on Hutton's blog that you guys are out there practicing all day and night as well. Without the band, would anyone be able to sing along to the fight song, or dance around like the drunk fools we are the Jump on it! haha. Keep up the good work, you guys are a big part of our cheering section as well.

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

We've had FAMU in RJS and let me tell you….it was a blast to have them in "our living room".  Awaiting in the tunnel to do our "Call of the Bulls", the FAMU band came through to get to the stands and we were giving each other props to give everyone at RJS a great show.

We've also had UCF and FIU's full band and UNC's Pep Band.  I feel like I'm missing another band off the top of my head in the past two years…

Finally, at the two bowl games, ECU and NC State bands were awesome too.  There were several times where both bands played over the other…

You are also correct that there may be a restrictions, like on half-time shows….I remember we had to amend our show in Miami by 45 seconds…But this was due to a Conference rule difference.

You are also correct that during the pregame show and halftime show of the other team, visiting or home, the other band shouldn't play. I think our Assit. Director who is in charge in telling the DM's when to and when not to play was on top of this.

As for class of H.O.T., we have numerous reports from HS and other Florida university directors on the progress, quality and representation of the Herd of Thunder Marching Band. So, if it seems I'm writing a lot on this topic on another university's board, it is because as an alumnus knowing how hard these kids practice and perform and the attcks they are getting right now, gets me upset.

I would chalk up your indifference about how much our band played to a difference in culture and expectations of a college marching band. Like I said in my post, I hope that your university recruits well for your band as your football team improves to match the same size and quality as the Herd of Thunder Marching Band.

To my friends from the HOT:  Don't worry about what people on here say about when you played because if they noticed we were playing at the same time as you, we played when USF made a good play, we played over our own announcements, and we didn't play to both sidelines.  Nice show BTW, sorry it got cut short by those twirlers.  It was nice to have a visiting band stop by.

last thought:

listen to what the established programs that have been around for 100+ years do…structured, organized, and timely…

they dont do the above…

Nice meeting a few of you in the 2nd half. I wish we had the chance to watch your show from the front.

btw, we don't have a 'script' or headset for away games to tell us when and when not to play.
