Practice Notes for 09-05-10; Owls Return McRoy

The Owls took advantage of an extra day of practice today installing run and pass schemes for the upcoming Michigan State contest at Ford Field.

In what would have normally been a day of corrections, plenty of snaps were had on ball sides of the ball.  But Coach Schnellenberger still called it quits a little early to the cheers of the players.

The line was a bit of a concern in last Thursday's contest and OL Coach Dale Williams had his bunch going head to head with Coach Frost's ends in spirited pass rush drills.

Samuel McRoy, who sat out the first game due to a leg injury and will start this Saturday, was back full force, and earned the praise of Williams for his staving off technique.

"We're delighted that he's is ready to go in the upcoming game", said head Coach Schnellenberger. "He'll start this week."

McRoy will replace Max Karrick at left tackle, who will likely slide over to the right side. Jimmie Colley, who finished the UAB game at center was held out of today's session, but is slated to start on Saturday as well.

Both insertions really couldn't come at a better time in all reality given the talent differential of the Spartan's defensive line in comparison to that of the Blazer's.

"Alot better, they're a BIG ten team", Schnellenberger said. "You don't have to worry about where they are coming from. They'll line up, come off the ball, and get you going backwards."

In comparison to the Blazer's, the Spartans will likely employ a blitz on third down in selected situations. UAB came on every down it seemed, so there is some balance to be had there.

"People who use the blitz live and die by it", Schnellenberger explained of the Blazers. "Last year they lived by it, and this year they died by it."
