Quarterback Situation

Post

What are the chances that Kiffin converts one or more of the QB's to other positions like, Johnson to slot receiver, or something else? With all these playmakers on the roster, and most of them having been on P5 programs before ending up here, does Kiffin decide to convert some to make sure he has the best playmakers on the field as much as possible? Or does he keep a deep QB bench with a ton of 3* and 4* QB's continuing to compete for playing time, or risk transferring to another program?

I think you will see one or more transfers at some point. Too much talent at the QB position and these guys will want to play. As far as this upcoming season, we will have to see how DeAndre's arm strength and accuracy improves throughout the summer. I honestly think both Robison and him will get snaps in games, but hard to say who the #1 will be when all said and done. If DeAndre's arm strength isn't quite there during the season, I could see an attempt to convert – but way too early to tell. After the 2019 season, I doubt you will see all 5 QBs we currently have have now or coming on the roster.

we actually got a transfer in …..dual QB Nick Tronti from Indiana is transferring here….sitting out '18 but has 3 years after that….he was 3 or 4 star QB a year ago

John Franklin III last year was a little different in he already knew he was moving to a different position, but I think many programs around the country like to recruit very athletic QBs with the thought that you ***often*** can use them in another spot.

That being said, there is still something good in having a versatile guy with his hands on the ball on every play when you run an offense like FAU did last season.  Driskel had some nice runs, but imagine somebody like Johnson getting 10 carries a game where he gets to hit the outside.  The offense has to be able to at least scare some people from loading up on Motor, but that can also happen with quick passes to a stud WR group OR with the RPO - tackle Motor and watch Johnson burn you for 20+ yards sprinting around the end.

I hope one of the guys steps up and shows he can take control of the offense (and is a capable passer), but if there is doubt I wouldn't be surprised to see Johnson as the starter given his running ability.  Having 2 really good ones and a capable 3rd stringer you are trying to groom is ideal.  Having more than that after the season starts seems like a waste to me.

I agree that we have a good problem. Here's my two cents. If D'Andre gets the starting roll, Chris will bolt. He is too good to only start his senior year. If Chris starts, D'Andre stays as a back up. He has already traveled the country. What I've seen is this, Chris has a way stronger arm and is mobile.D'Andre is a better runner but lacks sip. If I were coach, I would start Chris and let him have the job for three consecutive years. He is a way above average QB. I would not waste him. D'Andre could  play a big roll even if he does not start.

Yeah, from all accounts, Robison is very mobile as well. I wouldn't be too concerned with a keep it/carry drop off using him in a running situation over DeAndre. The biggest concern I've seen regarding Robison is his "gun slinging" mentality and maybe forcing things outside of the system a bit. But do not be mistaken–he is also a legit dual threat.

Not sure who will win the battle, but assuming Johnson does, he has 2 years of eligibility compared to Robison's 4, I can see them both staying.

We have 2 qbs right now, a true freshman isn’t in the conversation this season.

The style that both of them will play make them one hit away from finishing the season in sweatpants. I can’t see anyone going anywhere.

I'm pretty certain Chris doesn't have four years left.
