Question about Bowl Games...

Not trying to look to far ahead here but I was just curious about how the Bowls would work. If we win all of our games but we lose to Troy and we have 7 wins, I know we are bowl eligible but is there any kind of determining factor for the NCAA to pick a school? Is it based on how well a team would travel? Is it just luck of the draw? Obviously the only way we are guaranteed a bowl game is to win the conference outright, but wasn't sure if we could get into another bowl game like MTSU did last season

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

it would in all likelihood be a MAC or CUSA team…

BUT they take into account alot of factors, and yes attendance and draw is big…thats the one thing that would hurt us a bit…because we are not established in that area at present…

Re: Question about Bowl Games...

the NCAA does not select bowl participants… in fact, the NCAA is completely out of the bowl process

the bowl championship series selects the participants in the BCS National Championship Game, Rose Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Orange Bowl and Fiesta Bowl

the other bowls all have their own committees and they all select their participants individually

obviously, our best bet is to beat sun belt teams including troy and win the sun belt… then we have a guaranteed bid to the new orleans bowl

if we finish 7-5, losing to troy, which is obviously getting way ahead of ourselves - but let's just say, for argument's sake, i think the papajohns.com bowl's (birmingham, al) committee will look seriously at us and if the big east doesn't send enough bowl eligible teams

I think having Coach will help us get an invite

Re: Question about Bowl Games...

Anytime a team grabs some national attention, which we have this year helps.  Players like Polo, Rusty help bring some attention our way and if we take care of business on the field, I do think we will have a shot - having Howard certainly helps.  We may not travel with 10K but I can see us having a nice showing at a bowl game 3-4K.

Re: Question about Bowl Games...

Howard would be a help. But the school has to put togther a real marketing effort toward a few possible bowls.

Attendance counts and away game attendance counts (somethig that FAU cannot ever get if its administration doesn't even secure enough tickets for the fans who want to go to places like Gainesville … Holding tickets only for season ticket holders is insane! Troy bought something like 5,000-plus tickets and FAU bought only 500? Why?).

Perceived program quality and market counts. OOC wins really count. Beating USF would have been a near lock.

Bringing in a sponsor sometimes helps, as Troy did with Movie Gallery in the Silicon Valley Classic.

Even with seven wins, FAU could be displaced by a 6-win major team or another 7-win mid-major. MTSU got lucky last year, knocking out a 6-win major because of the new NCAA rules,  and this year is looking god as well.

Bmarkey, you are propably right, FAU will have to help themselves and do some lobbing & market the team as that time gets closer to being reality.
