Question (Eric): In 2005, will Florida Atlantic and FIU be bowl eligible and able to compete for the Sun Belt Championship? Or will year 2 of the transition to I-A more of the same from 2004?

Commissioner Wright Waters: Both will be extended all IA rights and responsibilities in 2005. I would not be surprised to see either one in their first ever bowl game as a IA institution. I am certain they will both be factors in the conference race.

Question (Wilson): I was wondering if, with Florida International and Florida Atlantic's admittance to the conference in football, a conference championship similar to what the SEC, Big XII, and ACC put on is feasible in the near future. (Thanks for your response!)

In case you were wondering, I AM your nephew.

Commissioner Wright Waters: Wilson, the NCAA requires 12 teams for a playoff, given our relationship with UNO, USA, UALR, WKU and Denver I don't see us expanding with full members although football-only membership might be possible.

Great item. Many thanks. Does anyone know when other sports (baseball, basketball, etc.) will be moving from the Atlantic Sun into the Sun Belt? That's going to mean a lot more travel for the Owls.

As far as I know, swimming is already in the SB. Football will be in next season. All the rest of the sports will be in the season after that (in 2006).

While basketball could have joined for next season one of the reasons for the delay was to help out the Atlantic Sun so that the conference didn't lose its automatic bid.

Many thanks. I'm just getting eager. I live in Colorado Springs, and I'm waiting to see the Owls come out to play the University of Denver in basketball.
