REPORT CARD: UL Monroe Game

Offense: C-
Too many mental mistakes at crucial times. Line started to come together on a few occassions but still fell a little short on key drives. False start on a center?

Defense: C
Nice TD off INT to start the game but it went downhill.
Couldn't get the stop when we needed it. To many 3rd and longs were converted. It was no secret that a pass was coming. The option was not that confusing but we still was out of position and missed too many tackles.

Special Teams: D
Will we ever find a decent P/K returner?
The punter need a little moe time to get his punts off.

Quarterback: C-
Like most people are saying..he had some choices but didn't make the right one. He did had to survive all night with his feet. Tough guy to say the least. That kept us in the game. The INT's obviously hurt his score here. ULM's DB Harris got Jared with 3 last year. Now their DB Williams, get Danny with 2 this year!

Coaching: D+
Plays seem very predictable most of the games. Even the announcers called several plays. Should have been more defensive looks for guys to have. Offensively we need to get Danny some help in his protection. How do we do that?

Attendance: F+
11,000+ on a Thursday night game isn't too bad. It looked more like 5000. As far as I'm concerned, the marketing group falls into this category. Therefore the failing grade.

Here goes:

Offense - D
Someone needs to block for the running backs. The ground game was pathetic. Size is no longer an excuse. FAU matches up with ULM. Pass blocking would also be nice. Embick was running for his life on almost every play. How does the center forget the snap count??? Very disappointing. The only good thing is that FAU did put together a couple of nice drives. Consistency is lacking.

Defense - D
ULM ran the ball at will. One back had 18 carries for 118 yards. Almost 7 yards per carry. Poor tackling was a big problem. Gave up way to many third and long plays. How do you give up a first down on 3rd and 16? The soft zone killed FAU. The two interceptions were positives.

Special Teams - C-
No fatal errors like earlier in the season. Nothing too spectacular either. Return game needs work.

Quarterback - C
Didn't get a whole lot of help out there. Needs to limit turnovers. The last int was a fluke. When he had time he made some nice throws. Ran the ball pretty well and showed great toughness. What other QBs would play after getting their eyebrow split open?

Souverein showed very good athletic ability running the ball.

Coaching - D
Put Embick in the shotgun. The best call of the night was a draw on 3rd and 15+. Other than that, offensive coaching wasn't very good. Pass and run defense were both terrible. The coaches need to drop the soft zone coverage against the past or else make sure that the guys jump receivers in their zone. It seemed as though we were in a prevent type package way to often and all we did was give up first downs on 3rd and long. Something needs to change very soon or it will be a long season.

Attendance - D-
We sort of expected poor attendance so what can I say? People didn't get a very good performance for their money. The coaches need to put a quality product on the field.

Offense - D, the running game definately improved, I believe edgecomb averaged over 6 yds a carry. But the lines inability to pass block and Embicks propensity to scramble put the team in a tough situation.

Defense - C, for the most part the defense held their own, making plays whens they were backed up against a wall. But the theme here is our lack of size and strenght in the trenches, the di-line was pushed around and failed to put any pressure on the qb. also, aside from hughley and skinner, the dbs played very soft. Bartels had the td, but was beat bad consistently.

Special Teams - B-, average coverage on punts and kickoffs. special teams was helped greatly by LM miscues.

Quarterback - D, I dont want to talk about this right now. Danny has a great arm and great legs, he just looked lost yesterday with poor downfield vison, blitz recognition, and decision making .

Coaching - F, Its hard to blame the players when the coaches put them in difficult situations. The play calling made the offense too predicatable and putting undue pressure on the young linemen. The defensive scheme was way too soft, keeping them on the field for rediculous periods of time.

Attendance - C-, maybe 5,000 fans realistically…but what did we expect on a thursday night in south florida. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of tailgaters, but the student turnout was outright pathetic.

Offense: D :-[ Had some nice drives in the second half halted by cr*ppy penalties taking away scoring chances. During Fall the OL was dominating our DL, yet during the games have showed they can't block worth a ****. Teams are going to continue to Blitz, till we show we can either slow it down or burn them consistantly.

Defense: >:( C- Way to many 3rd and long conversion - which in turn gave away the chance for us to have good field position way to many times - Defense this is how you win games for your anetp offense, give them a short field to work with - TROY last year won many games that way. They worked so hard all night, yet went they had the chance to slam the door, they opened the floods gates instead.

Special Teams: C :-/

Quarterback: C- :P At times he looked good, at times he looked indecisive. To his credit the OL just is not helping out, but then Danny should be aware of this and be in position and/or state of mind that he needs to make better decisions quicker.

Coaching: D :'( It looked like it was the first time we faced an option team - never made any type of adjustments as far as the defense goes. The offense at least made a few adjustment to gives us some nice drives in the second half.

Attendance: C :-/ Average, because that is what should have been expected, especially on a Thursday night & with the chance of rain (was rainning in WPB before game time). The crowd was about what I expected.
