Respect From Nebraskas coaching staff?

No one had a problem with you guys being optimistic about beating elite programs like Texas & Nebraska. It is fine to have a rational conversation about the particulars of the game.

What is unacceptable is the disrespect of Nebraska that is prevalent on this board. You guys are playing a program which is in the top 5 in all-time wins but you treat them as if they were FIU.

Last year, your coach called the Texas team "soft" before you got slaughtered in Austin. Did any of you come out and say that your coach should be ashamed for insulting a legendary program? I bet not. Real football fans have the stones to call out their coach when he screws up. Your blind allegiance to an disoriented has-been is tragic.

Yale is #2 in wins…do I have to respect that program as well?

Teambeer is the most knowledgeable FAU sports fan I know, way smarter than me.

disoriented has-been.

No one has been disrespectful to NU…provide one example please?

But, don't you think that you are being very disrespectful by the above attack on our Coach

Espcecially since your stated quam was with the fans of this board…

Stating facts that the team has a lot of rebuilding to do and should be questionable at the QB position is not being disrespectful.

I think you are confusing the program as a whole and the team that is on the field to play FAU. I think everyone on this board respects the Nebraska program and the team for that matter, but people see weakness in this team that did not exist in the powerhouse teams of the 1990s.

I have tons of respect for the history of Nebraska and for the program. I also know that this team is not nearly what past teams have been. As such, I am not going to talk them up and concede victory.

Why do you guys attempt to have an intelligent conversation with someone who has called the coach a "disoriented has-been".  At that point he is just another idiot with with nothing notable to say.  Just ignore him and he will eventually go away.

GO OWLS!

Here you guys go again, not showing enough respect to a legendary program…….and again the Owls will get destroyed.

What is the foundation for this hubris?
You lost Maurice Purify, Terrence Nunn, Frantz Hardy, and Dan Erickson on the receiving core - HUGE LOSSES.

Do you seriosuly think you will have a solid passing game??

Bottom line:  This makes you pretty one demensional?

If there is one thing we do fairly well, it is defend a traditional rushing attack.  See Michign State for example.

Now for us:

We have a possible NFL candidate running our Team in Rusty Smith.

We return everyone who was a top performer on the recieving core and welcome back our best TE.

Again, though, this is just to assert that this game should be competitive…

hey um…mr owl…the recievers you say nebraska is missing…they graduated in 2007.  The 2 we lost this year were nate swift and todd peterson…both were servicable.  they were great at running routes but were not game changers.  there's a freshman antonio bell who is just amazing people as the split end.  we still have Niles Paul back and Meno Holt who came on strong last year and started to play much like Mo Purify.  running back wise losing lucky…isn't really that big of a deal for nebraska.  he under achieved for the hype he had.  Helu and Castile have been absolutely amazing, especially with Helu gaining 15 pounds of muscle and actually becoming quite a bit faster, castile has lost weight and has drawn comparisons to lawrence phillips in the way he plays from dr. tom.  Defensively last year our linebacking crew was how do you say it…held together by bubblegum duct tape and prayers.  by the end of the year we had started 2 walk ons at the mike and will spots to preserve the redshirts of alonzo whaley and will compton both of whom will be very hard for your guys to defend(compton is very similiar to Barret ruud while whaley is practicing much like the old head hunters from the mid 90's)

First, we got 2 4* QBS and 1 3* quarterback competiting for the job. Chances are one of them will be decent. Second of all, we lost mst of those WRs at least a year ago. I think you meant Nate Swift and Todd Peterson, but we have a decent receiving core still. Marcus Mendoza is a beast and he just got switched from RB to WR because we are so deep at RB.
We have a GREAT defense. We have a possible top 10 pick in  Ndamukong Suh who will make your QB have nightmares.

One thing we do well is protect the QB…so, possibly…but not likely…

Your defense, IMO, will be your best suite for the game…your secondary will be key in stopping us, because the running game will likely be what it has been thus far against higher caliber teams…

How do you rate your secondary this year??

as another husker pointed out we will have a much better secondary, last year we hardly went out of the base 4-3 defense due to lack of depth.  we had to actually convert a safety to play linebacker and he did a suprisingly good job.  Dejion gomes should make an immediate impact for us.  one of the corner backs from last year as moved to safety and is looking like he will be the strong safety(eric haag, i will try to find some video to show you what he can do)  also, depending on how chris williams rehab goes he could also get significant playing time(he was i belive the number 7 best player in texas as voted by the dallas fort worth press).

our quaterback issue is very interesting.  Zac Lee is a mixture of Scott Frosts ability to get the ball there mixed with some of crouchs abiilty to run, he's been out running some of the running backs in practice.  Cody Green looks more like Brook Berringer, and Spano is more of a clone of ganz.  Also coming into the mix in the fall is Taylor Martinez.  He was the southern cal player of the year, he ran for 200 yards and passed for 250 in the southern cal championship game.  against Mater Dias he actually out dueled Matt Barkley(a USC commit and the number 1 pro qb for last year)  our offensive line will be much better due to scheme last year we tried to move to a more aggresive scheme but didn't have the hoss' to do it.  This year we have Ricky Henry who just wants to run over every one.

The Dline will be much better with cameron meredith, jared crick, Suh, and barry turner looking like our starting 4. depth here is not an issue we go about 3 deep at each position.

From another Husker fan, don't listen to the guy above me. He's trying very hard to refute the contributions of our graduating players from last year in order to somehow make it seem like we'll be that much better this year.

Swift and Petersen were absolutely fantastic receivers…for our offense. Nate Swift absolutely was a gamebreaker, and had a great year (a dropped pass in the Gator Bowl would have given him touchdowns in a season and yards in a season records to go along with his career receptions record) and Petersen was the perfect compliment, always finding the open hole.

Lucky struggled quite a bit his senior year but his contributions aren't forgotten to the intelligent Husker fans.

Blah blah blah blah more statements about how all his points are greatly exaggerated.

Sorry about that.

No need to apologoze…glad we have a level headed guy like yourself, and Hopefully 100 more to discuss things with as game day gets closer :)

Where do you see NU being most effective on offense??

As for us:

Your defensive line has me concerned…even with a weighty tailback possibly emerging this Spring for us, you're clearly prepared from a DL talent stand point.

Your secondary, not sure as of yet…WR is our strongest suite…and with a new OC who is a former WR, well we could be going heavy there - although HS always has the final say.

On your offensive end:

Offensive line is a problem if your coach goes with a running game for sure…we do seem to have somewhat of a pass rush emerging with Cyrille, but given what we have done as a whole with the other guys in the mix, and given the obvious double team, questionable.

Your Coach is not a "pound it" guy…but, whatever it takes to win the game is always the protocol…

What says you?
