It's gotta be coach! Clemson may have Howard's rock, but we actually have Howard himself! lol

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

I still think we need an owl perched ontop the pressbox overlooking the field!

If its a statue of Coach I hope hes standing on a replica of "the STUMP" that he used to use.

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

While I respect Howard and am excited about the statue, I am still a little disapointed it isn't a new basketballl arena……

Can you imagine having a 10,000 seat basketball arena to complement our stadium which will be 40,000 seats in 10 years????

They are building a new basketball arena.  Its part of the Innovation Village plan.  Dont know about 10,000 seats though, I dont think we need a gym that big.  I would be plent happy with a state of the art gym that holds 4,000.  Florida isn't a big basketball state, football is the bread and butter down here.

Teambeer is the most knowledgeable FAU sports fan I know, way smarter than me.

What is the timetable on the new arena?

There isn't a definitive timetable. Anywhere from 1-5 years is last I heard. My bet is 2015, when the Spanish River Blvd I-95 interchange gets completed, so FAU can argue that even though they're building another "massive" venue, the traffic will be mitigated by the new off-ramp. This would also give the program sufficient time to grow, consistently sellout the Burrow and allow them to assess how their stadium gamble paid off (or did we turn into the second coming of Akron)

I know President Saunders has made the retail/parking garage portion of IV a priority, which is nice, but not sure about the other pieces.

There's supposed to be a second wave of IV apartments along with the arena and apparently a student group (SEEDS) and the biology department is trying to get the Legislature to designate the rest of the "preserve" scrubland back there as protected preserve so FAU can't build on it. Apparently Athletics and Facilities told these groups that once the IV apartments and stadium were built, that would be it and they didn't expect to actually have to build the second wave of student apartments - which sounds like a flat-out lie.

As FAU grows, that preserve won't really have a chance, I'm afraid, except for the parts closest to the airport where it wouldn't make snese to build university buildings because of the noise level.

Re: Ribbon Cutting Ceremony...

At any point, can FAU push out (or at least assume) Palm Beach State College's "campus within the FAU campus to gain more expansion land? What about all that property along Glades Road?

I drove to the northeast entrance of the new towers tonight and turned into what is essentially the east entrance to the stadium and came face to face with a huge "Palm Beach State College" monument sign. Huh? The sign was 50 feet from the new dorms.

The property along the canal on the south side of Glades Road, you mean? Not sure what they're going to do with that. Something smart, hopefully. If they're going to continue commercial development, I hope it's more realistic "college-priced" establishments like this place, SandwichU.

I'd LOVE to see an FAU strip mall complex hosting places like Sandwich U, California Chicken Grill and Mellow Mushroom (all open late) as well as Gamestop, Kaplan Test Prep, a bike shop like Boca Bike Shop, a tanning salon, and a dueling piano bar like Howl At The Moon. Each place would have patio seating out front with blue and red umbrellas so you could socialize there, not just run in and out. It would serve college students needs including entertainment and late-night food, all within very easy walking (and biking) distance of the university. I've been stuck on this dream for awhile now and hope FAU goes in that direction.

I've debated with someone recently about whether bars could be built along there; their stance was that it would be dangerous to have drunk college students stumbling across the massive Glades Road intersection at 2 in the morning. There may be some merit to that.

Not sure if it's enough space to build residential units, for instance, a two story apartment complex. Maybe someone on here with some project development experience could give their thoughts on what could feasibly go on that space.

It's in a weird position now because the old entrance to PBCC off Lee Street is now parallel to the IV dorms.

That PBSC campus has got to go. But PBSC spent probably nine figures on it and it's not like they'd just walk away from all that investment.
