Room in C-USA for FAU?

Sun Belt needs to go after Southern Miss and La Tech.

C'mon Karl "The future is so bright I have to wear shades!" Benson.

Gurantee hes on the phone to CUSA members. Guy already laid the groundwork earlier with inquiries.

SBC picked a good time to have a breakout year in football.

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

Someone asked me if that was your dad in your avatar…

I said "Dad"??

"Heck no!"

"That's the Sun Belt Commissioner!"

I'd be livid if we go to CUSA.
Wouldn't be a happy camper if we lose MTSU and WKU either.
Time to scoop up USM, La Tech, Tulsa, App St, Ga Southern, and (insert team here) to get us up to 16 teams.

Re: Room in C-USA for FAU?

I can name 4 reasons off the top of my head for why we should move to C-USA

1. Academics. Being in the same conference with Rice and UAB will make us that much more competitive
2. Prestige. Say what you want about the SBC but it will never amount to anything as close to C-USA because almost EVERY member is looking for a way out.
3. TV deals. If more members from the SBC are looking to move to C-USA what makes you think the SBC will be more lucrative as a conference if all they are good for is bringing FCS programs to the FBS? I think mose television broadcasters would rather broadcast Southern Miss vs. FAU rather than South Alabama vs. Georgia State
4. MONEY. What has our athletic department needed the most for I don't know, the past 2 decades? $$$$$ C-USA provides a much better outlet to get some mula in for the resons I just stated.

Now, if La. Tech and Southern Miss go to the SBC then it's a different argument but the SBC will not survive as it is right now. Until they start bringing in some well recognizied programs from other leagues, the SBC will always be a destination for FCS programs looking to make a jump to the FBS

Only good thing about the CUSA left
2. Prestige. Say what you want about the SBC but it will never amount to anything as close to C-USA because almost EVERY member is looking for a way out.
And the teams in the CUSA aren't? Heck, the recent call ups are now complaining
3. TV deals. That's the thing. CUSA won't get the same TV dea that they used to have, even with CBS Sports Network being their #1. The SBC's deal is going to change after this bowl season, I'll bet you that. Now factor in the fact that everybody and their mother is leaving CUSA, and it will now be half FCS call-ups, that new CUSA TV deal isn't looking too pretty.
If we're able to snatch a couple of the remaining CUSA teams that got left out, then it'll ge the dagger in the CUSA when it comes to TV revenue.

4. MONEY. What has our athletic department needed the most for I don't know, the past 2 decades? $$$$$ C-USA provides a much better outlet to get some mula in for the resons I just stated.

How can teh SBC be the destination for FCS start ups? All we have taken is USA and GSU. Look at UTSA, ODU, and UNCC, who will not play a single down before being "called up" to CUSA.
The reputation of our leagues will change. Just like they did for the Big East

That would be huge and the perfect move.

Haha, so basically Conf USA is becoming the SunBelt with more travel expenses due to schools like UTEP?  No thanks.

C-USA has FIU and some very good academic institutions – Rice, UAB, and others are great company to keep. It makes too much sense for us to be in the same conference as FIU.

Eh, ok.  I think we need to play FIU dont need to be in the sames conference.  As far as Rice being a good school and UAB being a good research institution…not sure I care about that when it comes to conferences.

I never get the academic argument when it comes to athletic conferences.  Why does that matter?  I hope all colleges are good academically, but I don't care about that when we are playing them.
