Room in C-USA for FAU?

Room in C-USA for FAU?

I'm telling you guys, AD Chun needs to make a pitch to be a "football-only" member because other than the new stadium, all of our other facilities are terrible. I would not oppose a move back to the A-Sun in all other sports if it meant having football in the Big East. I doubt the SBC would allow us to stay in the conference for all other sports except football

Re: Room in C-USA for FAU?

I won't be suprised if the Sun-Belt Commissioner, and the C-USA commissioner got together and talk about merging the conferences. Its seems like everybody is bolting for the larger conferences right now. Next season there hardly be any football schools in the big east or C-USA it seems like.

FIU wants FAU to join Conference USA | FIU Panthers Prowl

FIU wants FAU to join Conference USA
FIU athletic director Pete Garcia and president Mark Rosenberg are lobbying Conference USA to invite FAU to join in 2014.

FIU's motivation is obvious. Why this isn't a surprise that Conference USA might be warm to the idea was detailed in my last post. And the Shula Bowl would resume after a one-year break.

C-USA's other replacement school? Sources say it might be Middle (again, see my last post for why this wouldn't be surprising). This all might be happening within the next two days.
For those thinking Big East for FIU…slow down. Realize where you are. Look around at FIU's facilities and fan support for football and the basketballs (yes, that should improve over the next 10 years across the board, at least for football) and be happy they're moving up one step on the conference ladder, this year's Sun Belt vs. C-USA football records notwithstanding

With MTSU to C-USA, I think the Owls are in prime position to make the jump.

C-USA wants to be at 14 members and currently sits at 13….

Re: Room in C-USA for FAU?

There's this from Dieter:

The possibility of FAU joining Conference-USA has been floated in the past, but the allure of the Miami television market being ensured up, along with keeping FIU happy by keeping its rival, as to help with travel, makes the FAUSA option high feasible at this moment.

A solid source — and some common sense — say that FAU wouldn't have to be asked twice to make the jump to C-USA. If the Owls are to stay in the Sun Belt in 2013, their closest rival would be Georgia State, in Atlanta.

Furthermore, the C-USA payout are believed to be $1 million more, annually, than the Sun Belt's.

Re: Room in C-USA for FAU?

This from a Marshall Blog..

Chuck McGill: Conference USA has intriguing possibilities

The ripple effect of Maryland and Rutgers abandoning the ACC and Big East, respectively, reached Conference USA early Tuesday. Marshall lost longtime rival East Carolina, which is joining the Big East in football only starting in 2014, and Tulane, a surprising all-sports addition to the Big East.

That means six of the 12 teams competing in Conference USA football and basketball this season are set to leave the league after this season or next.

Don't fret, Herd fans.

Here's a 14-team scenario that looks like an intriguing and geographically-appealing conference, provided there's no more trickle down from the major players when - not if - Cincinnati, Connecticut and Louisville relocate.

How about Marshall in a seven-team division with Charlotte, FAU, FIU, Old Dominion, UAB and either Middle Tennessee State or Western Kentucky?
