And to play devils advocate, if I was Pelini knowing MGIII is a wild card and Curtis was awful during his last outing then I have to go get a QB. That doesn't mean German isn't going to make it, it just means if he doesn't I have to have a fail safe.

It doesn't make him better than German, but there's no way Johnson or German would stick around if they weren't starting QB. I  have a hard time believing Johnson would agree to sign unless he knew for sure he was going to be the QB.

Well, unless Rivals and 247 aren't telling the complete story, we were his only Div.1 offer… so maybe he did sign here without being promised anything, just to play D1 ball.

Yes he rs'd his freshmen yr and then played 1 season so he has 3 yrs left…MGIII I've heard different things but as far as I know he has 1 yr left

Well even if you guys doubt him, he doesn't seem too doubtful:

I know it sounds like I don't like the kid. I do like him and I want him to succeed, the problem is, he doesn't want to succeed.

From what I heard about his grades is that he got some I's in the fall. That doesn't mean he failed every class or he had a GPA that wasn't acceptable to play football with. Just means he didn't do what was required to complete the classes he was taking and if he so chooses, he can complete those assignments needed and depending on his GPA he can be eligible.

In my opinion, I just don't see it happening. I don't see him caring enough to do what's required. I know school's not for everyone, hopefully he'll prove me wrong and we'll see him in the fall.

On a side note:

There is a difference between being "ready" and being "eligible".

"Ready" means you know the offense, and can run it.

"Eligible" means you can take the field…….

Lets hope he is both.  We have that school down south to play in 8 months.

Glad other people on here is starting to see the light and not just the highlight tape of there star recruits. Kolton Kane was gonna be the greatest thing when he signed, took a grey shirt to sign with a D-1 school, flessner signed and was gonna take over after German, both had no other D-1 offers and was released because they were terrible. Johnson has no other D-1 offers, he might come in and set the world on fire but if he has that much potential someone else would have noticed too. I really don't think German was that highly recruited, people made a big deal about his juco career but it is juco talent. Fine example is new wide out Lucky. great athlete, gonna be good. Can't tell me he didn't look at uconns qb and say no thanks. Chandler whitmer was horrible at Illinois and transferred to a juco and lite it up and signed with uconn and is still one of the worst qbs in D-1. Not sure about Curtis but know he had a D-1aa offer, Bracewell had fiu and Tulane and some d-1aa schools. Hopefully they are all eligible and can compete in the spring and one will make a good qb next year, but I don't think anyone should be picking one as the starter yet cause no one here has been very good at that lately.

I think JUCO talent is very underrated.  Some of the best have come from the ranks of JUCO, reason being that they were not cleared with the NCAA.  A blast from the past Brent Schaffer of Deerfield Beach High School was one the premier QBs in his time, unfortunately his off the field issues became a problem.  Cam Newton also was among those ranks, by UF.  However the truth is you may see more and more talent going the Juco way because of the ever changing NCAA rules.  These kids have all been playing against the best.  I challenge everyone, to do some research on Juco programs, and the kids that have come from them.  Juco was never talked about, because no one paid it any attention, until the "so called " four and five stars could not clear and would end up at the Jucos to get test scores up or the classes to enhance gpas. Don't get it twisted, just because a player does not have stacks and stacks of D1 offers, that he is not worth it, when actually you have kids that go D1 and bomb out.  Recruiters make mistakes.  Some kids are built up, but name only and especially during the 7on7 season, but when the pads come on…..different story.  I learned a lot during AJ's recruiting and I also learned that some of the best talent is overlooked, no matter what the experts say.  I also come to realize, that four year schools are not right for all athletes and some do better mentally with Juco's first as well as lower division schools.  But this is just my opinion
