RUMOR HAS IT....

your telling me if a student comes from another state,. no place to reside in.

They have housing for students. Some are on campus (hence less partying) and some are off campus.
Athletes on schlorships have their spots. Some move off campus too.

RUMOR HAS IT....

There are plenty of student affordale apartments just south of the University and due east of the University. Some look really nice on the outside, and my friend lives in one that doesn't look like much on the outside, but was really nice on the interior.

I think the apartments you are reffering to, are caleld Casa Del Rio right behind FAU on 20th st. There are a bunch of different apartment complexes behind FAU that I to have had friends live in. However, I do agree that we need to have cheap off campus housing available. Even if it is owned by FAU. Have them buy out Casa Del Rio, fix it up and change the name and lease it out to students. I think if a lot of students knew it was cheap and that it existed and that even if you dont have a car you can walk to class, I think it would fill up fast.
I have an older brother who graduated from Ithaca College in upstate NY, and they had an apartment complex called University Commons which is all cheap housing within walking distance of the campus. Obviously that name is taken, but I think the best idea would be to take over Casa Del Rio.

University Commons is a development corporation that builds student housing off campus, University Commons, Jefferson Commons, and there are a few others are very common near major universities. I agree they should level the area around 20th street and rebuild with student apartments... Im sure that will happen in the future.

what is the approx. number of students who live on campus, is FAU primarily a commuter school or does it have enough students on campus to not be called one.

I'm not sure of the exact # of students that live on campus, but if you walk around campus on a friday or saturday day or night the campus is empty. Nothing going on, no one is around. Even during the week, the campus is primarily quiet. If we get a stadium on campus I think more people will want to stay on campus and not drive home for the weekend, or after class.

That's because there are soooo many good places for young college students to go in Ft. Lauderale, Miami, South Beach, and West Palm. With the construction of the newer dorms on campus, there are quite a few that live on campus. Most move to the apartments in the surrounding areas by junior year, like any other campus.

I noticed even FSU, UCF, and UF are quite during the weekends. All the students leave to go party somewhere. As far as living on campus we have Indian River towers which is a big dorm and that new one they just ploped up thats pretty big too. FAU still is a commuter school though, but so was miami and louisville before shnelly got there. Personally I go to wakadoos on campus alot during the week. They have cheap beer, decient food, pool, air hockey, and TV's….. Most colleges have dry campuses were lucky…

Unless its changed from when I was there, Wackadoos was cool but it wasn't big enough or open late enough. With the exception of 7-11, nothing is open past midnight. Especially on the weekends, if there is going to be a lot of students on campus I would leave Wackadoos open till around 2am. Give people a reason to hang out on campus and eat food other then Domino's. I also think they should have made Wackadoos bigger when they re did the UC. I was at the Wackadoos in UCF and it has a game room and its probably twice the size of the one at FAU. I also think Wackadoo's being the only sports bar on campus, should be able to broadcast every FAU sporting event (at least the major 3) and generate some excitement. Have some beer specials, or food specials and giveaways. Do something to keep students from going somewhere else or just going home. Just a thought
