saturday's attendance

Marcus Nelson is reporting that the Homecoming attendance was

Which is impressive for so many reasons, including the rainy forecast!

I'm not sure how they came up with that number, although I read this year we are going with tickets sold and not actual attendance.  It was a good crowd(10k+), but I'd say it was a couple thousand short of 16,000+.  I thought it was a really good student turnout.  It turned out to be a disappointing loss, but the students who were there showed more passion then we have ever seen.  Going from endzone to endzone in OT was cool.  So the best thing I can take from the loss is that it showed the students are really starting to care about this team.  They cared enough to drive to the game, they ared enough to stay during the the storm, and they cared enough for that loss to really hurt at the end.  So while the game didn't go our way, perhaps it was another step forward in growing our fan base.  At the very least, the students that were there will be telling others what a crazy time they missed and what fun(except for the end) it was.

Re: saturday's attendance

16,902 that includes players and coaches on each team, Cheer leaders, dance team, the band all of the security guards and the guy selling beer. That should put it somewhere close to that # lol.

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Re: saturday's attendance

Since we need to average 15k expect to see a similar figure for the last home game. The number is tickets "sold". It could be that a sponsor bought a bunch of tickets.

Re: saturday's attendance

The movement of the students from end zone to end zone during the OTs (like a volleyball match on steroids) was fantastic! There were more students than usual at this game and they were into the game all day long, cheering, giving the refs hell, supporting the team as it came on and left the field and sharing in the final grief.

Some people from the sidelines must have come down to the east end zone because all of a sudden I looked up and the stands were packed! Awesome.

Those nasty event workers (including the one who wouldn't give me a plastic cap to save my soda between breaks) at Lockhart must have been having heart attacks with all that sudden movement.

Even the press box side was really into this game. I have been noticing how the FAU fans are slowly becoming knowledgable enough about college football to know when and what to cheer without a lot of prodding. The crowd got into it more and louder yesterday.

Now if everyone there would just bring two or three friends to the next two games …

Re: saturday's attendance

ArkStFan brought up a point on BlueRaiderZone.com about the attendance requirements.

What every school reports and is posted on the NCAA website is not the same attendance numbers reported to the NCAA to meet compliance the 15,000 average.  According to ArkStFan (who is a very reliable source on these matters), those figures given to the NCAA for compliance purposes are never released to the public.

I didn't know that until ArkStFan cleared that up, but I think one of your fans said to me at one time that your adminstration said that you'd have no problem meeting the requirement.  It's because donors step up and buy tickets but those figures aren't released to the public or reported on the NCAA website.  They are never made public.  They are kept confidential to the NCAA and each school's compliance office.

It's funny because you'll see fans from AnyGivenSaturday constantly checking those numbers wondering which 1-A school will be the first to drop back down to 1-AA.  The truth is, it won't happen unless the school allows it to happen.

Exactly, too much money is involved for the NCAA to relegate any team just because of attendance.
