The establishment with be across from the student housing area, steakhouse oriented, with a sports theme to consist of primarily #FAU flair.

There is no definitive timeline for opening, but the lease has been signed, and final stages of investment activities are underway.

@TheOwlsNest_ITB @Schnellenberger If there isn't a Schnellenburger on the menu I'm going to be highly upset. But this sounds great!

It needs to be a true sports bar offer good drink specials live music on some nights etc
There are 1000 steak houses in Boca.
If it's a steak house they should put the out of businesses sign up now because if someone wants to pay for a steak they will go to Ruth Chris, Mortons, or Maxs.
Don't build a restaurant and then out price the customer base within a mile of you.
I love the idea of having an FAU-themed sports restaurant on 20th Street and Schnellenberger is the perfect name to attach to it. You say across from student housing... I'm wondering if he's taking over the Sunbelt place, or that art framing store, or maybe something behind them? That's pretty much directly across from University Park.
Unless you mean in Plum Park (now The Shoppes at University Park) as there is a 10k sq ft plot about halfway in that could work very well for a steak restaurant. That probably makes the most sense.
That said, I share oc40's concern about steak houses in Boca, especially since Schnellenberger already lent his name to a steakhouse once before so hopefully he's learned some good lessons about it.
I've had several discussions with Coach over the years but never about steak so I don't know if he loves steak any more than the next person, though I do know that profit margins on steak are pretty high (as are gourmet burger places, according to some articles) so I'm not surprised it's Shula Burger and Schnellenberger Steaks. Everybody has the right to make money and Boca is a place where people have the kind of money to spend, hence all the steakhouses. Unfortunately, a lot of them close, so there's gotta be more to it than just steak.
Personally I would have liked to see Schnellenberger open a "gourmet" mini burger place because there are a lot of gourmet burger places but no dedicated mini burger place. Mini burgers are more in the price range of a college student anyway. And mini burgers, as a concept, must be profitable enough since they've been added as appetizers (and sometimes main dishes) to restaurants all over the place lately.
This sort of thing in Athens, Georgia would have worked really well too and fit in on/near 20th Street.

The other site is now reporting about the restaurant without crediting this site. Shocking.Posted On: Jul 3rd 2015, 5:35 PM #346334
The other site has also been ripping the Athletic Department pretty hard the past few days for what seems to be a personal vendetta. How pathetic.
